Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bruce Fairweather! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Trace Hardaway ! The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, George Francis and Gwen Towbar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hardaway moves in looking to clinch but Fairweather pushes him off. Fairweather throws a quick counter kick to the body but Hardaway avoids it. Hardaway looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Hardaway slaps away a takedown attempt from Fairweather, before circling back to the center of the mat. Fairweather gets a double leg takedown into Hardaway 's guard. Fairweather stays in close to Hardaway 's body and controls the position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Fairweather passes Hardaway 's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Fairweather stands up and beckons Hardaway to join him on the feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Some wild striking there from Hardaway .
Fairweather walks into a jab. Hardaway looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Fairweather shoots in and drives through. Hardaway sprawls well. Fairweather tries to clinch there but Hardaway circles away.
Fairweather shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bruce Fairweather. That's going to take a lot out of him. Hardaway rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Fairweather moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Fairweather tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Hardaway manages to circle out of the way. Hardaway misses the jab. Fairweather looking to score a takedown here. Hardaway is defending well but Fairweather drives through and ends up in Hardaway 's guard. Fairweather advances position into side control! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Fairweather taking a breather here. Hardaway tries to buck Fairweather off but Fairweather is having none of it. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Fairweather is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Hardaway 's shoulder. That is not cool. Hardaway is not in a great position here, taking some shots. Fairweather tries for a kimura but Hardaway is defending well. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Fairweather has hold of Hardaway 's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Hardaway seems comfortable defending it but Fairweather has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Hardaway is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Hardaway is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Fairweather couldn't care less - he's delighted!
