Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Alexei Kovalev!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Daniel Washington!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, George Francis and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kovalev catches Washington with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Kovalev cracks Washington with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.

Washington scores with a sloppy right hand. Kovalev should have avoided that one.
Kovalev feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Washingtons jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

Kovalev gets caught flat footed, as Washington shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Washington trying to control but Kovalev is working from the bottom.
Kovalev controls Washington momentarily but Washington frees himself.
Kovalev has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Washington is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Washington with a flurry of punches that miss.
Washington is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Kovalev is trying to keep Washington in close.
Washington throws a big right hand that misses.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Washington throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Washington stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kovalev swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Washington wants to control from the top but Kovalev keeps moving.
We've been hearing good reports from Kovalev's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Kovalev is trying to control the position but Washington postures up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Washington looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Washington on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Kovalev connects with a body shot.
Kovalev uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.


Washington is rocked!
Kovalev cracks Washington on the jaw with a powerful right hand and Washington falls backwards against the cage. Kovalev follows up with more strikes that drop Washington to his knees. Kovalev keeps the pressure on and the referee jumps in to save Washington! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Alexei Kovalev!
