Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
22 - 26 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Alex James! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Scottie Veins! The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Nard Betker and Paulsen Ambrosius.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Veins keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Veins throws out a counter right but James avoids it with no problem. James throws a hook but Veins avoids it easily. A decent looking cross lands there for Veins. Veins misses the shot to the body. Veins misses with a straight left. A looping hook to the body misses from Veins. James does a little dance to reset his feet. James throwing a counter right hand but Veins manages to avoid it. James moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot. Veins throws the left hand but James avoids the punch easily. A counter left hand to the body from James misses its target. James throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Veins sees it coming and avoids it easily. James connects with a nice looking jab.
Veins throws a jab when James was well out of range. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. James ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Veins moves away. Veins looks to throw the jab but James is out of range. James dives in and scores a takedown into Veins's guard. This has been an exciting period of action! James sitting in guard here, content to control. Veins tries to land a sweep but no joy.
That's one minute gone in the round. Veins is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. James thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. James controlling from the top position. James is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Veins looking to hit a scissor sweep but James is one step ahead there. James passes into half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. James is looking for a kimura here.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Veins can do anything to dispel that myth. Veins trying to hold on to James's head to control him but James postures up.
Veins really doesn't want to stay on the ground with James. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. James is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Veins is just riding it out for now. James eventually gives up the hold. James moves nicely into side control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Veins is looking to regain half guard here but James keeps moving and retains side control. James looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. James wants to control but Veins is keeping him busy. James is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Veins is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
That's four minutes gone in the round. James working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. James is working to tighten his grip on Veins's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Veins has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but James is really squeezing tight and eventually Veins passes out! James breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:34 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Alex James! In his post fight interview, Alex James gave a big smile as he said 'You know malaka, yes?'.
