Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jefferson Lewis! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Edwin Valero! The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Mauricio Rocha and Seu Braga.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Valero tries to clinch up. Lewis gets caught flat footed, as Valero shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Valero wants to stand but Lewis has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Lewis is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Lewis wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Valero manages to pass to side control. Lewis tries to kick Valero off but Valero keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Lewis tries to get to full guard but Valero has control of the leg.
That's one minute gone in the round. In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Valero working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though. Valero postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Lewis to stand up. Valero doesn't manage to clinch there - Lewis circles away.
Valero throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Lewis tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Valero is in Lewis's guard. Lewis wants to get back to his feet but Valero is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Valero trying to control the position from guard on top but Lewis is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Lewis is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Valero dives into side control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Valero is looking to take a break and control but Lewis is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Lewis really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Lewis bucks up and tries to throw Valero off but instead Valero has got his back! Lewis wants to get back to his feet. Valero controlling from the back.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Lewis tries to roll but Valero sticks to his back.
Lewis trying to get back to his feet but Valero is in full control for now. Lewis breaks Valero's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Valero is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Valero bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Lewis's guard. Lewis is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Valero is controlling him. Lewis uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Valero moves into the clinch successfully.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Edwin Valero dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Lewis shoots in for a double leg but Valero sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Lewis takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it. Lewis rushes Valero and presses him up against the cage. Lewis tries to pull guard but Valero holds him up against the cage and eventually Lewis drops back down to his feet.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jefferson Lewis. That's going to take a lot out of him. Valero misses with an elbow over the top. Valero wants to get back to striking at distance but Lewis won't allow it.
Lewis pulls guard effortlessly. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Lewis is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Valero trying to control the position from guard on top but Lewis is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Valero has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
That's one minute gone in the round. Lewis tries to land a sweep but no joy. Valero is stalling in the full guard. Lewis has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Valero is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position. Valero is defending well against a takedown attempt.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Valero throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Lewis blocks it with crossed arms. Lewis jumps guard but Valero stands there with Lewis around his waist. Lewis gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Valero has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Lewis uses from the top position. Lewis is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Lewis in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Valero is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Lewis is controlling him. Valero preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Valero is looking to stand up but Lewis isn't so interested in that idea. Valero is breathing heavily. Valero controls Lewis momentarily but Lewis frees himself.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Lewis loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Lewis won't allow Valero to sweep him here.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Valero throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Valero lands with a nice combination. Lewis backs away looking to recover. Some wild striking there from Valero.
Valero misses with a two punch combination.
Lewis fails with an attempt to clinch.
And Valero tries to counter it with a takedown but Lewis pushes his down on his head and steps out. Lewis gets in close and instigates a clinch. Lewis is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Valero pulls him back up using the underhooks. Lewis drags the fight down to the ground.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Lewis working for a triangle but Valero defends it easily.
Lewis looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Lewis is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Valero is controlling him. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close second round but Edwin Valero will probably get the nod - 10:9. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!
The fight stays on the outside here - Valero looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Valero wants to clinch up but Lewis keeps it at a distance. Valero avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Valero shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Lewis wants to get back to his feet but Valero is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
That's one minute gone in the round. Lewis has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Valero doesn't defend quickly enough and Lewis has managed to lock this one up! Can Valero escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Lewis on a fantastic submission victory.
