PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Bryan Turner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alex Savage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Bryan Turner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Alex Savage!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Richard Clark and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Turner closes the distance and clinches up with Savage, looking for a takedown. Turner pushes Savage against the cage but Savage circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Savage rushes Turner and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Savage drags the fight down to the ground.
Turner trying to control but Savage is working from the bottom.

Savage is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Savage has his foot on Turner's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Turner works his way back into a safe position though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Turner trying to control the position from guard on top but Savage is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Savage looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Turner passes into side control.

Savage is looking to reverse the position.

Savage explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!

Savage closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Turner's guard.

Savage has gone for a leg lock! Turner slips out almost immediately though and dives into Savage's guard.

Turner trying to control the position from guard on top but Savage is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Savage looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Turner postures up in Savage's guard and throws a big left but Savage blocks it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Turner trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Savage looking for a sweep. Not yet Savage, not yet.
Savage is still trying to improve position.
Turner trying to control but Savage is working from the bottom.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Savage tries to clinch up.

Savage scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Savage gets to mount! Turner was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
Turner is squirming around, avoiding Savage's attempts to control the action.

Savage takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Turner is in all sorts of trouble here.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Turner's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Savage throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Turner on the side of the head.

Savage shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Turner is trying to defend but Savage finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Turner tries to get to full guard but Savage has control of the leg.
Savage seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Turner could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Savage trying to control the action but Turner is working from the bottom.

Savage is controlling the pace.
Savage has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Savage wants to stand up but Turner is controlling the position.
Savage keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
A punch combination from Savage misses.
Savage tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Turner paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Savage closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Savage laying and praying for a moment but Turner takes advantage and regains half guard.
Turner is refusing to be controlled, as Savage sits in half guard.

Savage is looking to advance position but Turner won't allow it.
Turner regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Savage.
Turner wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Savage wanted to stand there but Turner had control of the position.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Turner being controlled here, momentarily.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Savage closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Savage lands in his opponent's guard.

Alex Savage showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!



Savage gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Savage blocks a body shot from Turner.

Savage manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Savage is adopting a defensive guard.

Savage working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Turner doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Turner manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Savage will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Savage throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Turner tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Savage is in Turner's guard.
Savage loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Turner controls Savage momentarily but Savage frees himself.
Savage is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Savage looking to pass the guard.
Savage looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Savage's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Turner looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
A slapping body kick lands there for Savage.

Savage closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Turner's guard.

Turner keeping moving, preventing Savage from controlling successfully.
Turner has control of Savage's left arm, preventing Savage from doing any damage.
Savage postures up in Turner's guard and throws a big left but Turner blocks it.
Savage looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Turner utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Alex Savage comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Savage has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
