Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Hickson Grice (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dan Cooper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Hickson Grice!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Dan Cooper!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Bruno Hogan and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cooper tries to close the distance and clinch up but Grice swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Cooper closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Cooper looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Grice striking from the bottom but nothing landed.
Grice sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Grice is looking for a sweep. Cooper is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Grice trying to hold on to Cooper's head to control him but Cooper postures up.

Cooper is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Grice slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Grice has a closed guard, preventing Cooper from standing up.

Grice is breathing heavily.
Cooper has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Grice is proving hard to escape from.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Cooper pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Cooper shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Grice's guard.

Cooper thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Grice working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Cooper doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Cooper manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Grice is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Grice wants to sweep here but Cooper controlling him for the moment.

Cooper drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Cooper jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Grice really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Grice has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Cooper is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Grice.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Cooper is looking to clinch.
Grice walks forward, straight into a front kick from Cooper.
Cooper tries to clinch there but Grice circles away.
Grice fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Grice avoids the head kick by Cooper.

Dan Cooper is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cooper throws a push kick but Grice slaps the foot to one side.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Cooper breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Cooper pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Cooper swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Cooper tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Grice drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Cooper is looking to reverse the position.
You can see the frustration on Cooper's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Cooper takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

Cooper is not content to let Grice control the position.
Grice connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Cooper some visible discomfort.

Grice tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Grice sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Cooper is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.

Grice goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Cooper rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Grice's guard! Nice work there by Cooper!

Cooper slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Grice misses with an elbow from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Cooper thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Cooper is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Grice is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Grice is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Cooper off and has taken his back!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Grice is not going to allow Cooper to sit and survive in this position.
Cooper trying to get back to his feet but Grice is in full control for now.
You can see the frustration on Cooper's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Grice is persistently looking for the submission but Cooper is defending it well.
Cooper manages to escape to a better position under a series of strikes. Grice is now in side control.
Grice lands a decent elbow from side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hickson Grice dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Cooper fails with the takedown

so Grice counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Cooper is trying to keep Grice in close.

Cooper looking for a guillotine here but Grice defends easily.

Cooper escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Grice gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Grice controls from within his opponent's guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Cooper looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Grice distracts Cooper with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Grice is stalling in the full guard.

Cooper escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Grice gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Grice seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Grice with a flurry of punches that miss.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Grice accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Grice trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Grice throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Cooper works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Cooper drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Grice is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Grice manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Grice gets back to full guard.
Cooper trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Grice escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Cooper gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Grice is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Grice will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Cooper thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Grice lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Cooper!
Dan Cooper has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Grice is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Cooper has managed to escape the submission attempt.

And that's the end of the fight!
Hickson Grice showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Grice, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
