Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Stephen Griffiths (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andrey Lapis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lapis is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Once Solemn . Stephen Griffiths is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 24 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Stephen Griffiths!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 12 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Andrey Lapis!
The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Sergei Dronov and Illya Tyunina.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lapis cracks Griffiths with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Lapis looks to land a combination but Griffiths avoids it well.
A punch combination from Lapis misses.
Griffiths ducks under a wild hook from Lapis.
Lapis has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Griffiths finds it's way round the side to connect with Lapis's head.
Griffiths lunges at Lapis with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Lapis's hand.
Lapis swings away with a body shot that misses

and Griffiths counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Griffiths.
Griffiths pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Lapis is keeping the position for now.

Lapis working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Griffiths doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Griffiths manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Griffiths drops back looking for a leg! Lapis is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Lapis manages to kick Griffiths off! Griffiths jumps back into Lapis's guard.
Lapis tries to land a sweep but no joy.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Griffiths stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Lapis swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Lapis is looking for a triangle but Griffiths pushes his legs off easily.
Griffiths passes into half guard.

Griffiths is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Lapis looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Griffiths looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Lapis with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Lapis is refusing to be controlled, as Griffiths sits in half guard.
Griffiths is thwarting Lapis's attempts to control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Griffiths is looking to advance position but Lapis won't allow it.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Lapis is looking to control Griffiths's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Lapis avoid being mounted?
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Griffiths is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Lapis moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Lapis has his hands on Griffiths's head, controlling the position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Griffiths is looking to work some ground and pound but Lapis has wrist control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

and Griffiths counters with a single leg into guard. Lapis didn't expect that.
Griffiths slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Griffiths has gone for a leg lock! Lapis slips out almost immediately though and dives into Griffiths's guard.

Lapis stands up over Griffiths, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Griffiths has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Lapis is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Griffiths.

Lapis has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.
Griffiths wants to control his opponent's hands but Lapis gets his hands free.
Griffiths is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Lapis is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Griffiths tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!

Lapis is looking to stand but Griffiths has his arms wrapped tightly around him, looking to prevent the damage.
Griffiths wants to control but Lapis is having none of it.
Lapis lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Lapis can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Griffiths is looking to escape.
Griffiths tries to reverse the position but Lapis maintains control.

Griffiths has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Lapis is working away from the top position though.

Lapis slips a nice elbow through Griffiths's hands, connecting with Griffiths's forehead.

Griffiths has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Lapis doesn't defend quickly enough and Griffiths has managed to lock this one up! Can Lapis escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Griffiths on a fantastic submission victory.
