PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Percival Pacaldo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Thorin Ragnarsson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Percival Pacaldo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 2, fighting out of Helsinki, Thorin Ragnarsson!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Johanna Lukiainen and Anni Minnemäki.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Pacaldo shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Pacaldo is thwarting Ragnarsson's attempts to control the position.
Pacaldo with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Pacaldo throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pacaldo is looking to take a break and control but Ragnarsson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Pacaldo working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Ragnarsson wants to get back to his feet.
Pacaldo knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Ragnarsson on the ground.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Pacaldo is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Ragnarsson tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Pacaldo pushes Ragnarsson off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Pacaldo manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Ragnarsson on his heels. He'll look to pass Ragnarsson's guard now, I'm sure.

Pacaldo postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Pacaldo will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Pacaldo throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pacaldo slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Pacaldo changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Ragnarsson looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Ragnarsson is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Ragnarsson looks winded!
Ragnarsson is trying to maintain the position but Pacaldo is very close to passing his half guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Pacaldo takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Percival Pacaldo dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Pacaldo looks to land a body kick but Ragnarsson moved away.
Nice takedown defense from Ragnarsson. No joy for Pacaldo on that attempt.

Pacaldo is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Ragnarsson can do to turn this around?

Ragnarsson got a little sloppy there for a moment and Pacaldo has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Ragnarsson has managed to get both his arms back between Pacaldo's legs - danger averted.
Pacaldo wants to stand but Ragnarsson is controlling the position.

We've been informed that Ragnarsson has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

Ragnarsson blocks Pacaldo's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.

Ragnarsson jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Pacaldo manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Ragnarsson works to advance to full mount. Pacaldo defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Pacaldo looks very frustrated and is flailing away with strikes from the bottom. His corner are telling him to stay calm.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pacaldo tries to lock up and control but Ragnarsson gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Pacaldo is desperately trying to improve his position but Ragnarsson has a good base and remains in mount.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Ragnarsson cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Pacaldo is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.

Thorin Ragnarsson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Pacaldo's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Pacaldo shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Ragnarsson as he avoids it easily.

Ragnarsson has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Pacaldo can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Pacaldo closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Pacaldo is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Ragnarsson reverses the position - he's now on top in Pacaldo's guard.
Ragnarsson lands a couple of digs.
