Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ulrich Scherer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Joe Ward (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ward has chosen Aint nobody got time for dat as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ulrich Scherer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, John Joe Ward!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Russell Pearce and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Scherer cracks Ward with a right hand to the side of the head.
Scherer fails to land with a series of punches.

Oh, that's a big right hand from Scherer and Ward goes tumbling to the canvas! Scherer follows him to the ground and looks to finish from half guard.


Ward is rocked!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Ward flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Ward is still in real trouble! Can Scherer finish him?

Scherer has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Scherer winds up and cracks Ward with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Ward has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Scherer is working away from the top position though.
The fighters are battling for position here. Ward manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Scherer is looking to work some ground and pound but Ward has wrist control.
Ward seems to have recovered his senses.
Scherer trying to control but Ward is working from the bottom.
Scherer pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Ward is keeping the position for now.
Ward lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Ward throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Scherer has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Ward wants to control from the top but Scherer keeps moving.

Scherer has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Ward trying to control but Scherer is working from the bottom.

Scherer is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Ward is aware though and is defending well.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Scherer wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Scherer continues to stall.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Scherer misses with a head kick.
A countering left hand to the body from Ward misses.

Ward scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Scherer throws Ward to one side and escapes!

Scherer gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Ward to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Scherer has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Ward off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Scherer moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.

Ward moves into the clinch.

Scherer tries to stall but Ward uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

Ward manages to break the clinch.

Ward decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Scherer manages to escape and get back to his feet!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Ward stuffs the takedown.

Scherer gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Scherer pulls Ward in to control the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Ward throws a big right hand that misses.

Ward not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ulrich Scherer dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Scherer drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Ward stops Scherer from passing to mount.
Scherer lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Ward down.
Scherer working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Scherer moves into full mount!
Scherer is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Ward can do to turn this around?

Scherer swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Ward is now in Scherer's guard. A big mistake from Scherer there, giving up the dominant position!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ward wants to stand but Scherer is controlling his posture from full guard.
Ward is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Ward drops back, looking for a kneebar! Scherer looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Scherer looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Scherer!
Ward is not content to let Scherer control the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Scherer has control of an arm but Ward manages to advance to Scherer's back!

Ward is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Scherer has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
Scherer manages to reverse the position and now he's in Ward's guard. Nice work there by Scherer.

Ward manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Scherer misses with a takedown attempt - Ward sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Oooh a lovely combination from Scherer sends Ward down but not out. Scherer dives into side control looking to finish.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ward is looking for a sweep.
A big shot lands for Scherer! That's hurt Ward! Will he recover? Scherer fires away with more strikes and the referee has to step in to stop the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:28 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ulrich Scherer!
John Joe Ward was interviewed post fight and said 'I'm so handsome i'm not surprised this guy was all over me the way he was!'.
