Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Travis Alvarado! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, John Marshall! The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, John Kavanagh and Joseph Jones.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Horrible takedown attempt by Alvarado or perhaps it was just good defense by Marshall, which made it look bad. Marshall feints the counter takedown. Marshall feints and as Alvarado raises his hands in defense, Marshall changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Alvarado working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Marshall. Marshall tries to free his leg and advance position but Alvarado is retaining full guard. Alvarado is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Alvarado tries to score a body lock takedown but Marshall shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Alvarado gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Marshall.
That's one minute gone in the round. Alvarado pulls guard. Alvarado could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Marshall working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Alvarado utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Alvarado striking off his back but it's not causing Marshall any problems. Marshall postures up in Alvarado's guard and throws a big left but Alvarado blocks it. Marshall lands a couple of elbows. Marshall cracks Alvarado with a solid left hand. Alvarado lands a couple of shots from the bottom.
Marshall stands over his opponent and dives in with a flying punch! Alvarado throws up his legs and catches Marshall in a triangle! Oh this looks tight! Marshall tries to escape but he's forced to tap! Wow, fantastic work there by Alvarado! That came out of nowhere!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Travis Alvarado!
