Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jax Briggs!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Qasim Barakat!
The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Illya Tyunina and Sergei Dronov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Barakat bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Briggs ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Briggs has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
A left lands for Briggs.
Barakat throws out a loose jab but Briggs uses good head movement to avoid it.

Briggs scores with a takedown into Barakat's guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Barakat is trying to keep Briggs in close.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Briggs stays in close to Barakat's body and controls the position.

Briggs lands a couple of elbows.

Barakat trying to keep a closed guard but Briggs is proving a slippery customer.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

and Barakat counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

It looks like Jax Briggs has been cut.
Briggs throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Barakat misses with a straight left.
Briggs is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Barakat changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Briggs takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.
Briggs ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Barakat moves away.
Barakat scores with the left hand. Briggs knows he should have avoided that one.
Barakat misses with a body kick.
Briggs connects with a looping right hand.
Barakat looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Briggs wants to clinch.

Briggs moves out of range as Barakat throws a body kick.
Briggs connects with a body shot.
Briggs takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Barakat throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Barakat tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Briggs was well out of range. Poor timing from Barakat.

and Briggs takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Briggs is looking to wear down Barakat with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Barakat misses with a low kick as Briggs jumps back.
Barakat misses with a leg kick.
Briggs tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Barakat lands a nice shot that snaps Briggs's head back.
Briggs misses with a hook to the body
and Barakat connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.


Jax Briggs's cut is getting worse.
Barakat throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
A quick step to the side and Briggs tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A telegraphed right hand from Briggs misses the target.
Briggs misses with a right hand
letting Barakat counter with a right hand.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Barakat, right into the meat.
Briggs lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Barakat at a distance.
Briggs just misses with a punch to the body.
Briggs swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Briggs lands a body shot.
Briggs falls off balance throwing a combination
and Barakat counters with a nice kick to the body.
Barakat clobbers Briggs with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Barakat ducks under a wild hook from Briggs.
Barakat throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.
Briggs is breathing heavily.
Barakat dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Briggs. That did some damage!
Briggs misses with a jab to the body
and Barakat counters with a nice kick to the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Qasim Barakat dominated that round.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Barakat's corner calls for a 1-2. Barakat obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Qasim Barakat seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Briggs misses with a body shot
and Barakat counters with a nice leg kick.
A punch lands to the side of Briggs 's head but he takes it in his stride.


Jax Briggs's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.
A looping hook to the body misses from Briggs. Barakat does a little dance to reset his feet.
Barakat scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Barakat fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Briggs on the side of the head.
A solid leg kick lands there for Barakat.
A combination from Briggs does no damage.
Barakat let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.
Briggs throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Barakat sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Barakat moves into range and connects with a jab.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Barakat, right into the meat.
Barakat moves out of range of the strikes.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Briggs checks a leg kick.
Barakat works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.


Jeez, Jax Briggs's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.
Barakat throws a head kick but Briggs moves out of range.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Briggs looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Barakat is fending him off so far but Briggs persists. Nope, Barakat circles away and we're back to standing.
Briggs throws a body punch but Barakat moves out of range.
A nice side step and Barakat releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.
Barakat fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Briggs tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Barakat was well out of range. Poor timing from Briggs.
Barakat keeps Briggs at a distance using the push kick.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Barakat scores with a spinning back kick!

Barakat lands a big head kick that sends Briggs tumbling to the mat! Barakat takes a step backwards and waves Briggs back to his feet - he wants the finish!


Briggs is rocked!

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Jax Briggs's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:40 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Qasim Barakat!
Qasim Barakat decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
