Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
11 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rob Wood! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
10 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Alex Andrews! The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Wesley Smith and Robert Twigg.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Wood lands a jab to the head.
Andrews takes one to the chin there. A lazy left from Wood finds it's target. Andrews lands a two punch combo.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. A cross from Wood lands. A head kick misses from Andrews. Andrews fails in his attempt to clinch. Wood cracks Andrews with a big right hand and Andrews goes down!
Andrews is rocked! Wood has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Wood is looking to stand up but Andrews won't let him. Andrews is still in real trouble! Can Wood finish him? Wood pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Andrews is keeping the position for now. Andrews seems to have recovered his senses. Wood postures up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Andrews misses with a wild combination.
Wood's corner calls for a 1-2. Wood obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
That's one minute gone in the round. Wood lands a jab followed by a vicious hook that sends Andrews sprawling to the canvas. Wood follows him down, looking for the kill. Can Andrews hang on? Wood wants to stand but Andrews has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now. Andrews works his way to full guard. Good work. Wood might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Andrews is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Andrews looking to hit a scissor sweep but Wood is one step ahead there. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Andrews looks gassed! Andrews is working an open guard so Wood takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Nice uppercut lands for Wood. That snapped Andrews's head back.
Wood avoids a low kick by using good footwork. Andrews on the wrong end of a nice hook. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Wood throws a right hand that Andrews ducks under and follows up with a left that Andrews also avoids with ease. Andrews is looking to clinch but Wood is avoiding it.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Wood drops Andrews with a left right combo! Wood follows him down to the ground into side control.
Wood decides to stand back up. Wood steps back and let's Andrews get back to his feet. Andrews closes the distance and clinches. Wood lands with a right to the head. Andrews creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses. Andrews misses with a knee strike.
Wood breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Rob Wood seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Andrews throws a head kick that misses. Wood misses with a body kick. Andrews gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Andrews gets a nice trip takedown into half guard. Andrews prevents Wood from standing back up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Andrews not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Wood trying to control here.
Wood is trying to stand.
Wood wants to control the action here but instead Andrews manages to pass to full mount! Andrews throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Wood because Andrews loaded up on that one.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Poor strikes thrown by Andrews there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Andrews throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Wood really wants to buck Andrews off and get back to his feet. Wood really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Wood takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position. Andrews tries to control but Wood wriggling away. Andrews throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Wood is trying desperately to improve position. Wood sneaks a leg under to get to half guard. Andrews stops Wood from getting back to his feet.
Andrews has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Andrews performing his best blanket impression for a moment. Andrews missing with the ground and pound from half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Rob Wood dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Andrews takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him. Wow, both these guys are really going for it! Wood fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Andrews manages to avoid it. Andrews takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it. Wood scores with a nice right hand.
Rob Wood is winning the standup battle so far. Wood connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Wood punishes Andrews's body with a nice straight punch. Wood tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target. Wood misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Andrews.
Wood drops Andrews with a right and a left! Wood comes rushing in but Andrews regains his composure and manages to keep Wood in guard.
Andrews being controlled here, momentarily. Wood decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Andrews, up you get! Andrews tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Wood throws a leg kick which misses Andrews's front leg but catches the back leg as Andrews tries to avoid it. Andrews is breathing heavily. Andrews misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
That's one minute gone in the round. Wood cracks Andrews with a right hand to the side of the head. Wood blocks a head kick by Andrews.
Good shot there by Wood. Wood is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches. Wood dances in with a quick combination. Andrews is being worked over with jabs and crosses. Oooh, a right straight from Wood snaps Andrews's head back. Andrews stumbles backwards against the cage. Wood steps forward and delivers a right cross that connects with Andrews's jaw, simultaneously knocking him out and sending his mouthpiece into the crowd! There's a worthy souvenir for the fans. This one is over folks. Andrews just didn't come prepared.
