PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Borhan Khan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Modus Ponens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Modus Ponens told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Borhan Khan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Modus Ponens!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Alan Glass and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Khan misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Ponens! But no joy.
Ponens displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Khan.
Khan sets himself, and Ponens steps forward looking for the clinch! Khan avoids it this time.

and Ponens counters with a left to the body.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Borhan Khan. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Nice takedown defense from Ponens. No joy for Khan on that attempt.
Ponens unleashes a big counter combination but Khan bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Ponens swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Khan.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Khan has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Khan there as he acknowledges the shot.
Ponens stuffs the takedown attempt from Khan. Khan gets slowly back to his feet.
It seemed like Ponens was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Khan staying out of range there.
Khan closes the distance and clinches up with Ponens, looking for a takedown. Khan pushes Ponens against the cage but Ponens circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Ponens throws a body shot but no joy.
Khan moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Ponens lands a body shot.
Khan tries for a takedown but Ponens sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Khan throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Ponens's waist but Ponens gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Khan off to one side.
Khan shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Ponens sprawls well. Ponens wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Khan gets slowly back to his feet.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Ponens! But no joy.
Ponens scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.

and Ponens holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Ponens comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.

With the two fighters working up against the cage, Ponens just misses with a elbow thrown towards Khan's brow.

Ponens lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.

Ponens lands a body shot.
Ponens throws an elbow but it's blocked.

Ponens utilising his Muay Thai to score with a knee to the body.
Ponens lands with a right to the head.
Ponens misses with an elbow strike.
Khan blocks a body shot from Ponens.

Khan turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!

Khan working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Ponens is looking to reverse the position.

Khan has hold of Ponens's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Ponens seems comfortable defending it but Khan has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Ponens is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Ponens is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Khan couldn't care less - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:11 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Borhan Khan!
