PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jon King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frank Nove (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Jon King has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Jon King seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jon King!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Frank Nove!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Paulo Santos and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Nove.

King shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Nove is trying to defend but King finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
King stalling.
King tries to pass the half guard into mount. Nove knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
King perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
King working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Nove's thigh. Nove counters though and makes it back to full guard.
King looking to sit in guard and control but Nove gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
King looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
King looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Nove postures up in King's guard and throws a big left but King blocks it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Nove sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Nove stopping the sweep attempt from King.
King is controlling Nove's posture.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
King is trying to keep Nove in close.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Nove lands the left hand.

Nove drives through and clinches with King against the cage.

King turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
You can see the frustration on Nove's face as King controls the position.
Nove is trying to get back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
King is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Nove's shoulder. That is not cool.
King wants to control but Nove is keeping him busy.
Nove manages to work his way to half guard, despite King's best efforts.
Nove is looking to control King's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Nove avoid being mounted?
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with King in particular looking to stall.
Nove won't allow King to pass to mount.
Nove is staying active underneath King, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
King controlling the pace.
King trying to control from Nove's half guard. Nove has other ideas though and has regained full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Nove is trying to control the position but King postures up.
King trying to control but Nove is working from the bottom.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
King pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Nove is keeping the position for now.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Nove gets the takedown into side control.
Nove tries to move to mount but King blocks the move with his legs.

Nove stands up and beckons King to his feet.

King scores with a takedown into Nove's guard.

Nove manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
King has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Nove after a bit of a struggle.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Nove breaks the clinch.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Nove is defended easily by King.
Nove on the wrong end of a nice hook.

King shoots in and bounces Nove off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Nove looking to control.
Nove is controlling King's posture.
King not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Frank Nove will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



King fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Nove to the ground. King is now in Nove's guard.
King stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Nove swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Jon King overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Nove keeping moving, preventing King from controlling successfully.

King is posturing up here but Nove has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! King tries to roll out but it's too tight and King has to tap! Slick submission there by Nove!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:38 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Frank Nove!
