PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jersey Squirrel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dan Gable (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Squirrel's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Lil Wayne- Milli. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Jersey Squirrel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Dan Gable!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, James Atkins and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A thudding body kick lands there by Squirrel!
Squirrel misses with a body shot.
Squirrel looks to score with a jab to the body but Gable is just out of range.
No luck for Gable with that takedown attempt.
Squirrel fails in his attempt to clinch.
Squirrel lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.

Gable feints and as Squirrel raises his hands in defense, Gable changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Gable slips nicely into half guard, despite the strikes coming from Squirrel.
Squirrel trying to control but Gable postures up.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Gable controlling the action here.
Gable seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Squirrel actively working from the bottom here.
Squirrel is pressing down on Gable's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Squirrel is looking for a triangle here but Gable uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Squirrel is not content to let Gable control the position.

Gable thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Squirrel managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Gable.
Squirrel is trying to get back to half guard.

Squirrel regains half guard, as Gable was trying to land strikes.

Gable seems to be working for a kimura but Squirrel defends the submission attempt.
Squirrel regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Gable.
Squirrel not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Gable.
Squirrel misses with a head kick.
Gable slips a jab and a cross from Squirrel.
Gable shoots for a takedown but Squirrel saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Jersey Squirrel has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dan Gable.
Gable looks for a takedown but Squirrel sprawls well.
Squirrel misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Squirrel throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Gable.
Squirrel stuns Gable with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Squirrel lands with a nice body kick.
Gable looks gassed!
Squirrel lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the ring so we can get back down to business.


Squirrel goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Squirrel throws a head kick but Gable moves out of range.
Squirrel lets loose with a powerful body kick. Gable will feel that in the morning.
Good standup being displayed there by Squirrel as he connects with a hook.
Gable takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Squirrel lands a jab-cross combination.
Squirrel scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.

Squirrel gets caught flat footed, as Gable shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Squirrel throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

Squirrel has his foot on Gable's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Gable works his way back into a safe position though.
Gable is breathing heavily.

Squirrel had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Gable is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Squirrel Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Gable's back instead.
I really don't envy Gable right now.

Squirrel is looking for the choke from the back position but Gable is controlling his hands well.
Gable rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
Squirrel passes into side control, despite Gable's attempt to control the position.

Squirrel stands up and we're back to a striking position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Squirrel throws a series of punches but Gable moves out of range.
Squirrel throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Squirrel throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Gable shoots in and drives through. Squirrel sprawls well.
Squirrel keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Gable shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Squirrel but Squirrel pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Jersey Squirrel has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dan Gable.
Squirrel comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
A jab lands there for Squirrel.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Squirrel dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Squirrel scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Gable doesn't seem bothered though.
Squirrel cracks a nice hook into Gable's ribs.

Squirrel clinches with his opponent.
Gable avoids the elbow strike from Squirrel, against the ropes.
Gable looking for a takedown.
Squirrel lands a knee to the head.


It looks like Dan Gable has been cut.

Squirrel escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Squirrel throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
A right-left combo lands from Squirrel.
Squirrel moves in looking to clinch but Gable pushes him off.
Gable shoots in but no luck this time.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Squirrel!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Squirrel plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Squirrel doesn't manage to clinch there - Gable circles away.
A combination from Squirrel does no damage.
Gable takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Gable keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Squirrel lands a front kick.
Squirrel is looking to wear down Gable with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Squirrel fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Gable fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Gable takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Gable shoots in for a double leg but Squirrel sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jersey Squirrel dominated that second round.
The cut man is working on Dan Gable's cut.
That's time! Squirrel's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Gable takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Squirrel lands a body shot.

Squirrel takes the fight into the clinch.

Squirrel manages to break the clinch.
Squirrel throws a series of strikes that have Gable backpedaling.

Gable bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Squirrel is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Squirrel manages to work his way to half guard, despite Gable's best efforts.
Gable tries to pass the half guard into mount. Squirrel knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Gable takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Squirrel is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Gable's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Gable's back!

Gable trying to control the hands but Squirrel breaks the grip.
Squirrel lands a shot to the head.
Squirrel keeps control of the position as Gable tries to break free.

Squirrel is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Squirrel has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Gable has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Squirrel is working hard for the rear naked choke here.
Gable has hold of Squirrel's arm. He needs to escape this position sooner or later but for now he's happy enough to control the position and prevent the submission attempts.

Squirrel wants to control but Gable is keeping busy.
Gable can't escape the position.

Squirrel is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Gable has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
Squirrel is not going to allow Gable to sit and survive in this position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Gable rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
Gable wants to get back to full guard but Squirrel has mounted him!
Squirrel prevents Gable from getting the reversal.

Dan Gable has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Jersey Squirrel showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Squirrel, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
