PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Randy Clapper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Reshad Tartan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Randy Clapper!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Reshad Tartan!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Reed Andrews and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Clapper ducks under a wild hook from Tartan.
Tartan lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Clapper circles away quickly and effectively.
Tartan swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Clapper feinted with a counter takedown.
Tartan throws a series of strikes that have Clapper backpedaling.
Tartan swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Clapper appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Tartan throws a series of punches but Clapper moves out of range.
It looked like Clapper wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Clapper throws a series of strikes that have Tartan backpedaling.


It looks like Reshad Tartan has been cut.
Tartan tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
A combination from Tartan does no damage.
Clapper feinted with a counter takedown.
No joy there for Tartan, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Tartan misses with a shot to the body

and Clapper moves into the clinch.

Tartan pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Reshad Tartan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Tartan falls off balance throwing a combination

and Clapper moves into the clinch.

Clapper tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Clapper's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Tartan rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Clapper moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Tartan throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
A combination from Tartan does no damage.
Clapper half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Tartan stalks Clapper and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Clapper's face. Clapper staggers backwards, shaken.
Tartan throws a combination that misses

and Clapper counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Clapper looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Clapper tries to pass the half guard into mount. Tartan knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Tartan looks winded!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Clapper in particular looking to stall.
Clapper moves nicely into side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Clapper tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Tartan is not content to let Clapper control the position.
Clapper working the ground and pound but Tartan is defending the strikes.

Clapper is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Tartan is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Clapper is trying to ground and pound but Tartan uses the momentary lack of control by Clapper to regain half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Clapper is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Tartan sees it coming and defends easily.
Clapper not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Reshad Tartan will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Reshad Tartan's cut.
That's time! Back to the action!


Tartan misses with a double jab
and Clapper counters with a series of strikes. Tartan will be more careful next time no doubt.

Clapper shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Clapper misses with a head shot. Tartan uses the momentum to regain guard.
Clapper working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Clapper pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Tartan is keeping the position for now.
Clapper might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Clapper advances position into side control!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Clapper advances to full mount.

Clapper wants to finish this one by submission but Tartan is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Clapper.

That has opened up Reshad Tartan's cut even more.
Tartan is in a horrible position here. Clapper smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.


The cut above Reshad Tartan's eye is starting to cause him problems now.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Reshad Tartan's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:54 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Randy Clapper!
Randy Clapper decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
