Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
15 - 24 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Keiji Kawada! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Cappie Ragnard! The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Chris Saunders and Josh West.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kawada tries to clinch but Ragnard moves out of range. Ragnard throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Kawada wants to clinch. Kawada throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Ragnard's head. The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Ragnard checks a leg kick. Kawada fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Ragnard on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Kawada shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Ragnard wants to sweep but no luck. Ragnard working a defensive guard here.

Kawada postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Kawada chips away with some ground and pound. Ragnard working for a triangle but Kawada defends it easily.
Kawada tries to free his leg and advance position but Ragnard is retaining full guard. Ragnard preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Ragnard is trying to control the position but Kawada postures up. Kawada preventing the sweep. Ragnard is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Ragnard looking to hit a scissor sweep but Kawada is one step ahead there.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ragnard is still trying to improve position. Kawada definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Ragnard can't keep his opponent in guard - Kawada advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Ragnard is defending against the submission attempts here by Kawada.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Kawada stalling.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kawada seems to be working for a kimura but Ragnard defends the submission attempt. Ragnard regains full guard. Nicely done. Kawada postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Ragnard has an active guard here but Kawada has managed to pass into half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Kawada wants to control but Ragnard is keeping him busy. Ragnard tries to roll over but Kawada keeps him under control. Ragnard controlling the position well. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Ragnard wants to improve his position but Kawada is controlling well.
Kawada is thwarting Ragnard's attempts to control the position. Ragnard is looking for a sweep. Kawada is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Ragnard avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Kawada. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Keiji Kawada dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Ragnard won't allow Kawada to get back to his feet. Ragnard stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kawada swivels though and keeps the full guard. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Kawada is on top in guard.

Ragnard must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Kawada is trying to control the position but Ragnard postures up. Kawada is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Ragnard is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. Ragnard passes into half guard. Ragnard is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Kawada reverses the position - he's now on top in Ragnard's guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Kawada missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Kawada wants to stand but Ragnard has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Kawada wants to pass the guard but Ragnard is keeping the position. Ragnard keeping moving, preventing Kawada from controlling successfully. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! Keiji Kawada dominated that second round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!
Kawada darts in looking for a takedown but Ragnard gets double underhooks and turns Kawada into the cage. Ragnard avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

The fighters are pinned against the cage. Ragnard manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Ragnard looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Kawada tries to close the distance and clinch up but Ragnard swats him away and circles back towards the center. Nice defenses there by Ragnard. Kawada with a lazy takedown attempt and Ragnard counters with a series of strikes. Kawada will be more careful next time no doubt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Keiji Kawada. That's going to take a lot out of him. Kawada throws a right and a left that both miss. Keiji Kawada is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Kawada takes one on the button. Kawada tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Ragnard manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Ragnard throws a leg kick but Kawada moved away. It looked like Kawada was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit. Ragnard gets a double leg takedown into Kawada's guard. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Kawada keeping moving, preventing Ragnard from controlling successfully.

Ragnard is looking to work some ground and pound but Kawada has wrist control. Ragnard pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Kawada is keeping the position for now. Kawada keeping moving, preventing Ragnard from controlling successfully. Cappie Ragnard has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Ragnard won't allow Kawada to sweep him here. Kawada working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Ragnard doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Ragnard manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Kawada keeping moving, preventing Ragnard from controlling successfully. Ragnard loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Kawada is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Kawada is really struggling to control Ragnard but he's trying to hold on to the position. Kawada trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kawada tries to clinch but Ragnard is having none of it. Ragnard throws a nice looking combination but Kawada bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. A combination from Ragnard does no damage. Ragnard ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Kawada moves away. Keiji Kawada is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Kawada tries to close the distance and clinch up but Ragnard swats him away and circles back towards the center. Kawada shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Ragnard but Ragnard pushes him off and we're back to square one. A jab lands there for Kawada. Kawada fails in his attempt to clinch. Kawada looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Ragnard is fending him off so far but Kawada persists. Nope, Ragnard circles away and we're back to standing. Kawada fails with a takedown attempt. Ragnard with a body punch. A glancing blow.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Ragnard fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Kawada is out of range. Ragnard lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Kawada circles away quickly and effectively. Kawada dodges the punch combination from Ragnard.
Ragnard misses with a looping left. Kawada looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Ragnard is fending him off so far but Kawada persists. Nope, Ragnard circles away and we're back to standing. Kawada has a takedown stuffed. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Ragnard will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Kawada fails with an attempt to clinch.

And that's the end of the fight! Cappie Ragnard comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I think Kawada has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
