PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Kyoshi Sakei (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alfredo Stone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kyoshi Sakei!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Alfredo Stone!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Steven Brown and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stone fails with an attempt to clinch.
As Stone tries to get set, Sakei tries to push him back and clinch up but Stone manages to avoid the attempt.
Stone looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Stone shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Sakei napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Stone decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Stone is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Stone throws a left and a right that both miss

and Sakei moves into the clinch.
Sakei is looking to take this one to the mat.

Stone has Sakei pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Stone pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Sakei tumbling to the mat - Stone dives into Sakei's guard.
Stone must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Stone loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Sakei is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Stone is aware though and is defending well.

Still in half guard, Stone seems content to control.
Stone is keen to just control but Sakei is a slippery customer.
Stone looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Sakei is staying active underneath Stone, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Sakei is looking to control Stone's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Sakei avoid being mounted?

Stone is trying to work for a kimura but Sakei is defending well.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Sakei slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Sakei looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Stone lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Stone pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Sakei back to the cage. Stone follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Stone is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Sakei will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Stone is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Sakei has escaped the position, nice work there.
Sakei throws a couple of punches but he's in a bad position and they don't land.
Sakei is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Stone trying to control the position but Sakei is working away.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Stone defending well as Sakei loads up on a big left hand.
Sakei looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Stone.
Sakei can't do much from the bottom here.
Stone misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Sakei on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Sakei tries to get out of the position.
Stone wants to lay and pray for a moment but Sakei keeps working.
Sakei gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Well, if Stone is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Sakei goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Stone has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Sakei but great work by Stone.

Stone shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Sakei's guard.

Stone might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Sakei haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Stone drops back, looking for a kneebar! Sakei looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Sakei looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Sakei!

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Stone is trying to maintain the position but Sakei is very close to passing his half guard.

Sakei might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
