Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jim Gates (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nick Rude (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rude is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: The Headstones - Long Way to Neverland. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jim Gates! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Nick Rude! The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Columbo Gatti and John Kavanagh.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gates looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Rude fails with the takedown. Gates avoids the body shot from Rude.
Rude forces Gates back against the cage and clinches. Rude is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Gates pulls him back up using the underhooks. Rude jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Gates walks away with a smile on his face. Rude gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Jim Gates has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Nick Rude. Gates scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. Gates scores with a one two! Rude had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
It looks like Nick Rude has been cut. Rude closes the distance and clinches. Rude is looking to take this one to the mat. Rude has Gates pressed against the cage.
Gates has had enough of the clinch but Rude keeps him there for the moment. Rude is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Gates to keep the fight standing. Rude on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Rude tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Gates just stands there and leans against the cage. We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Rude has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat. Gates breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gates lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Rude circles away quickly and effectively. Rude tries to clinch but Gates is having none of it. Jim Gates is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Gates throws a half hearted mid kick. Horrible takedown attempt by Rude or perhaps it was just good defense by Gates, which made it look bad. Gates closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Rude misses with an elbow over the top. Rude content to slow the pace in the clinch.

Gates is pressed up against the cage. Rude has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Gates down to the mat. Gates avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Rude slips a jab and a cross from Gates.

No, Gates has managed to get both his arms back between Rude's legs - danger averted. Rude keeping moving, preventing Gates from controlling successfully. Rude looking for a guillotine here but Gates defends easily.

Rude wants to get back to his feet but Gates is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Rude looking for a guillotine here but Gates defends easily.
Rude had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Gates defends it easily.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Rude wants to control the position but Gates says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard. Rude regains full guard. Nicely done. Gates pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Rude is keeping the position for now. Gates avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Gates wants to control but Rude is keeping him busy. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Jim Gates will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on Nick Rude's cut. That's time! Gates's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Gates lands with a slapping head kick. Gates throws a right hand that Rude ducks under and follows up with a left that Rude also avoids with ease. Rude fails with a takedown attempt. Jim Gates is winning the standup battle so far. Rude dodges the punch combination from Gates.
Gates tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Rude throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Gates's waist but Gates gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Rude off to one side. Gates takes a swing at Rude's ribcage but misses. Rude takes the fight into the clinch. Gates is trying to break free.

Gates wants to clinch up but Rude keeps it at a distance. Gates is looking to wear down Rude with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment. Gates lands a jab-cross combination. Gates moves into the clinch. Gates is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Rude is defending well for now. Gates misses with a shot to the kidneys.

He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. Gates tries to free his leg and advance position but Rude is retaining full guard.

He'll be looking to tighten that up but Gates can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Rude is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Gates is aware though and is defending well.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Rude looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Gates is defending well. Rude quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Gates has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Rude celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
