The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Masada throws a left and a right that both miss
and Li decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Masada's guard. Masada is looking to stand back up but Li counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Masada. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Masada is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Li scores with a couple of nice shots. Li slips a nice elbow through Masada's hands, connecting with Masada's forehead. We've been hearing that Li has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish. Li looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Masada with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Li winds up and cracks Masada with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Li is working for a kimura but Masada is defending it quite comfortably.
Masada on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Masada is rocked! The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Li working over Masada with some ground and pound. Masada looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Masada trying to hold on to Li's head to control him but Li postures up.
Li is figuring out what he wants to do next.
That's one minute gone in the round. Li is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Li lands strikes from half guard. Li is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Masada is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:51 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Wai Man Li! Wai Man Li decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
