Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Harry Rodgers! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ken Williams! The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Damien Edna and Donatello Bradman.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Williams pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Rodgers.
Williams tries a head kick but it misses.
Rodgers throws a left and a right that both miss
and Williams counters with a nice double leg into guard. Williams tries to stand but Rodgers is controlling from the bottom. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Rodgers knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Williams on the ground.
That's one minute gone in the round. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Rodgers throws a poor cross that misses
and Williams counters with a nice double leg into guard. Rodgers has a closed guard, preventing Williams from standing up. Williams stands up from Rodgers's guard - Williams perhaps looking for a knockout. Williams tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Williams throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
That kick from Williams tenderised Rodgers's leg. Rodgers is trying to keep his angry face on.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rodgers misses with a body punch
and Williams counters with a straight right hand. Williams throws a one two combo.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Rodgers throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Williams changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt. Rodgers misses with a hook. Williams ducked under it nicely. Williams steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Rodgers. Rodgers throws a right hand that misses
and Williams moves into the clinch. Williams fails to pull guard.
Williams wants the takedown. Rodgers is fighting it off but Williams persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Rodgers's guard against the cage. Rodgers looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio. Williams decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Williams misses with a head kick.
Williams tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Rodgers throws a leg kick and Williams counters with a one-two to the body. Rodgers misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Williams.
Williams looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Rodgers misses with a left hand enabling Williams to counter with a crisp jab. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Ken Williams dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Rodgers misses with a left hand and Williams counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Williams. Williams breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Williams lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
Rodgers is rocked! Williams throws a head kick that misses. Oh Rodgers is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Rodgers misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Williams.
Rodgers seems to have got his legs back now. Williams lands a big head kick that sends Rodgers tumbling to the mat! Williams takes a step backwards and waves Rodgers back to his feet - he wants the finish! The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Williams fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Rodgers misses with a right hand and Williams counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Rodgers is trying to escape back to his feet but Williams uses the scramble to pass into side control.
Williams decides to take the fight back to the feet. Williams uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Rodgers.
Rodgers loads up on a big right hand but Williams slips the punch.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rodgers blocks a head kick by Williams.
Williams throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Williams slips a jab and a cross from Rodgers.
Nice body kick there by Williams. Ken Williams seems to be getting the better of the standup. Williams tries to bum rush Rodgers with a series of wild strikes but Rodgers uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Harry Rodgers seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Williams drops Rodgers with a beautiful combination! Rodgers stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Williams is looking for the KO! Rodgers throws out a token jab with nothing on it. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Rodgers throws a sloppy body shot
and Williams counters with a big slam followed by a series of strikes - this one is all over!
