Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Pekka Kaukalo! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jose Correa! The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Frank Antenori and .
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Correa scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Kaukalo is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Gutz Gym that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet. Correa wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Kaukalo, who protects the arm well. Kaukalo is looking to reverse the position. Kaukalo is trying to control Correa's posture but Correa avoids it. Kaukalo tries to buck Correa off but Correa is having none of it. Kaukalo can't do much from the bottom here. Correa takes a little break here. Kaukalo wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Kaukalo is looking to regain half guard here but Correa keeps moving and retains side control. Correa thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kaukalo is pushing Correa's head away, looking to escape. Correa manages to hold on to the position though. Correa tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Correa has knee on belly and moves into mount. Kaukalo doing his best to control the position. Can he escape? Kaukalo is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Correa is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Kaukalo has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Correa working for a guillotine from mount but Kaukalo is in no mood to give up. Correa is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Kaukalo is surviving well by controlling Correa's body position as best he can. Correa wants to control the pace but Kaukalo is squirming around nicely. Kaukalo tries to hold on but Correa pushes him away. Kaukalo really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Correa moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Kaukalo has worked his arm free - good work by Kaukalo!
Correa goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Kaukalo has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Correa but great work by Kaukalo. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Correa is trying to get back to half guard. Correa is still trying to improve position. Correa gets back to half guard. Kaukalo not doing much here.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Correa has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Kaukalo is working away from the top position though. Correa trying to get back to full guard but Kaukalo takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount! Correa is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Correa is controlling an arm, preventing Kaukalo from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Kaukalo is standing up, even though he is in mount. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jose Correa dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Kaukalo takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Kaukalo catches Correa with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong! Correa throws a right and a left that both miss. Correa clobbers Kaukalo with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise. Kaukalo connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe. Correa fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Kaukalo throws a nice inside leg kick. Kaukalo misses with the combination.
Kaukalo throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Correa digs a good hook to Kaukalo's body.
Correa is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Kaukalo. Correa moves out of range of the leg kick from Kaukalo. This has been an exciting period of action! Kaukalo thows a left - swing and a miss! Correa on the wrong end of a kick to the body.
Correa shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Correa showed some decent athleticism there.

Correa is looking to take a break and control but Kaukalo is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Correa is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Correa trying to control from half guard but Kaukalo is working away. Correa is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Kaukalo doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Correa. Correa wants to control but Kaukalo is keeping him busy. Kaukalo won't allow Correa to pass to mount. Kaukalo is not content to let Correa control the position. Kaukalo won't allow Correa to pass to mount.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kaukalo pushes Correa off looking to stand but Correa dives back in and keeps control.
Correa passes to side control. Correa tries to advance to mount but Kaukalo instead regains half guard. Kaukalo is looking to control Correa's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Kaukalo avoid being mounted? Correa controlling the action here. Correa is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Kaukalo is trying to maintain the position but Correa is very close to passing his half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Correa stops Kaukalo from getting back to his feet.

and Correa decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Kaukalo's guard. Kaukalo is trying to control the position but Correa postures up. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Kaukalo holds on and takes a little breather. Kaukalo wants to get back to his feet but Correa is in a dominant position and won't allow it. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Correa won't allow Kaukalo to sweep him here. Correa stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kaukalo swivels though and keeps the full guard. Correa trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Kaukalo manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

A close second round but Jose Correa will probably get the nod - 10:9. That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!

Kaukalo throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Correa sees it coming and avoids it easily. Correa circles away from the clinch attempt.
Kaukalo lands with a straight right. Correa didn't see that one coming. Kaukalo missing with a left hand there. Correa was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Correa uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Kaukalo. Kaukalo throws an off balance right hand
and Correa cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Kaukalo staying out of range there. Correa missing with a left hand there. Kaukalo was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. It looked like Kaukalo wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit. Correa lands a jab to the nose. Kaukalo uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Correa. Kaukalo throws a right and a left that both miss. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Kaukalo throws a looping overhand right but Correa ducks down to avoid it. Correa tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away. Correa with a lazy takedown attempt and Kaukalo counters with a nice uppercut. Correa bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Kaukalo misses with a series of wild punches.

That's one minute gone in the round. Kaukalo scores with a sloppy right hand. Correa should have avoided that one. Correa lands with a good body shot. Good leg kick by Kaukalo there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Kaukalo throws out a loose jab but Correa uses good head movement to avoid it. Kaukalo fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Correa, pushing him back against the cage. Correa is trying to pull guard but Kaukalo has him pressed against the cage. Kaukalo tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage. Kaukalo looking to stall.
The referee calls for Kaukalo to work.
Correa goes for a takedown attempt but Kaukalo pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Pekka Kaukalo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jose Correa. Correa shoots in for a takedown but Kaukalo shows good takedown defense. Kaukalo takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it. Kaukalo pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way. Kaukalo throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

A little feinted left hand from Kaukalo on the counter but he doesn't commit to it. Kaukalo turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick. Kaukalo uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Correa. Kaukalo throws an overhand right that lands on Correa's shoulder, as Correa tries to avoid the shot. Correa swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Kaukalo moves out of range of the strikes. Correa ducks under a wild hook from Kaukalo. Correa throws a series of punches but Kaukalo moves out of range. An inside leg kick from Kaukalo misses. A countering left hand to the body from Correa misses. Kaukalo uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Correa.
Correa stalks Kaukalo and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Kaukalo's face. Kaukalo staggers backwards, shaken. Kaukalo throws the left hand but Correa avoids the punch easily. Correa closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Kaukalo to the mat! Kaukalo manages to get full guard. Correa trying to control but Kaukalo is working from the bottom.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Correa tries to free his leg and advance position but Kaukalo is retaining full guard. Kaukalo pushes Correa off and scrambles back to his feet.
Correa throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Kaukalo scores with a spinning back kick! Kaukalo swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Pekka Kaukalo is winning the standup battle so far. Kaukalo walks into a left hand. Kaukalo displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Correa. Jose Correa seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Some wild striking there from Correa.
Kaukalo doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body. Kaukalo steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Correa. Jose Correa is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight. Kaukalo keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Correa tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him. Pekka Kaukalo has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Correa takes a body punch but keeps moving. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Correa fails to land with a series of punches.
Correa lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent. Correa throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Correa takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards. Kaukalo misses with a jab, cross combination.
Kaukalo takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily. Correa avoids the body shot from Kaukalo.
Correa tests Kaukalo's chin there with a solid looking shot. Correa goes for a double leg but Kaukalo avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Kaukalo continues to drive forward. A quick step to the side and Kaukalo tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect. A looping hook to the body misses from Kaukalo. Correa does a little dance to reset his feet. Correa on the wrong end of a nice hook. Correa throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Kaukalo tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Correa is in Kaukalo's guard. Kaukalo wriggles free and stands up. The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end. Kaukalo getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
And that's the end of the fight! Pekka Kaukalo showed his dominance in that final round. I think Correa has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
