PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tamias Poochyena (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jon Pegas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Poochyena comes into the arena with This Life - Curtis Stigers & The Forest Rangers blaring out of the sound system. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 40 - 17 - 3, fighting out of St Petersburg, Tamias Poochyena!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 37 - 25 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jon Pegas!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Colin Fotheringham and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Poochyena lands a front kick.
Pegas swings away with a body shot that misses
and Poochyena counters with a straight right hand.
Poochyena throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Pegas on the side of the head.


It looks like Jon Pegas has been cut.
Pegas misses with a lunging right hand
and Poochyena counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Pegas takes a body punch but keeps moving.
A telegraphed right hand from Poochyena misses the target.
A head kick misses from Pegas.
Pegas tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Poochyena was well out of range. Poor timing from Pegas.
Pegas ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Poochyena moves away.
A solid body kick from Poochyena.
Poochyena throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Pegas loads up on a big right hand but Poochyena slips the punch.

Poochyena lands a jab to the head.
Poochyena scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Poochyena throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Pegas on the wrong end of a nice jab.
Pegas throws a lazy right hand but Poochyena sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
The fighters circle momentarily. Poochyena darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Poochyena throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Pegas steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Poochyena.
Jon Pegas seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Pegas throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
It looked like Poochyena wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Nice straight punches there by Pegas. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Pegas.
Pegas has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Pegas scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.

Poochyena throws out a powerful jab.
Poochyena has been working on his boxing with his coaches at gym closing in the buildup to the fight.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Pegas throws a leg kick
and Poochyena counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Pegas throws a sloppy head kick and Poochyena moves out of range easily.
Pegas misses with an uppercut.
Poochyena jinks towards his opponent looking like he wants to counter with a mid kick but doesn't commit.
Poochyena connects with a solid leg kick.
Poochyena throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
A big left from Pegas misses.
Poochyena thinks about countering with a head kick.
Poochyena ducks under a wild hook from Pegas.
Pegas fails in his attempt to clinch.
Pegas is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Poochyena.
Poochyena was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Poochyena lands with a kick to the ribs.
Pegas misses with a low kick as Poochyena jumps back.
A quick step to the side and Poochyena tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
Poochyena avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Pegas moves into range and clinches up with Poochyena.
Pegas will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Poochyena up against the cage.
Poochyena dodges an elbow strike from Pegas.
Poochyena doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Poochyena stalls.
A head punch on the inside from Pegas fails to land.
Poochyena misses with a punch on the inside.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Poochyena blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Poochyena blocks an elbow strike.
Pegas looking to slow down the pace here.
A head punch on the inside from Pegas fails to land.
Poochyena tries to work over Pegas's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Poochyena's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Pegas stalling against the cage.
Pegas throws an elbow that misses.
Pegas letting Poochyena take a breather here.
Pegas misses with a hook from the clinch.
Pegas tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tamias Poochyena dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Jon Pegas's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


A solid leg kick lands there for Pegas.
Poochyena keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Pegas is really struggling to land any decent head shots against his taller opponent.
Pegas takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Poochyena's jab looks to have found its range, popping Pegas under the eye.
Poochyena swings for the body but Pegas moves out of range.
A lazy left from Poochyena finds it's target.
Pegas blocks a jab.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pegas throws a wild body kick that Poochyena sees coming a mile off.
As Pegas looks to move away, Poochyena throws a big counter combo bu Pegas just gets out of the way.
Pegas misses with a wild body shot.
A nice leg kick lands there from Pegas.
Pegas on the wrong end of a kick to the body.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Pegas takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Pegas throws a poor cross that misses
enabling Poochyena to counter with a crisp jab.
Pegas lands with an overhand left.
Poochyena is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
BOOM! Poochyena lands a beautiful left hook that drops Pegas. Pegas tries to recover but Poochyena is having none of it, landing more punishing shots from mount. One final crushing shot and Pegas lies motionless on the canvas. The fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:29 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Tamias Poochyena!
Tamias Poochyena decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
