Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Reginald Monroe! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Miguel Perez! The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Steve Smith and Elvis Blanc.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Perez fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Monroe looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath. Perez ducks down and throws a hook to the body. Miguel Perez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Perez jabs Monroe right on the nose. Monroe blinks but takes it well. Perez tests Monroe's chin there with a solid looking shot. Perez looks to score with a jab to the body but Monroe is just out of range. It looked like Monroe was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit. Monroe dives in and grabs Perez's left leg, looking for a takedown. Perez pushes down on Monroe's head and hops out. It seemed like Perez was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it. Monroe closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Monroe lands in his opponent's guard. Monroe missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Monroe stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Perez swivels though and keeps the full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Monroe not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Perez looking to hit a scissor sweep but Monroe is one step ahead there. Perez keeping moving, preventing Monroe from controlling successfully. Perez has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Monroe has passed into side control.
Perez is trying to improve his position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Monroe tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Monroe has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Perez can't do much from the bottom here. Perez should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Monroe takes advantage of some sloppy striking from Perez to pass into mount.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Perez tries to get back to half guard but can't. Monroe will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Perez is squirming around, avoiding Monroe's attempts to control the action. Monroe scoring with strikes but Perez is staying in there. Perez in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head. Monroe lands a heavy elbow. Monroe lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Perez is in a horrible position here. Monroe smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Perez can do anything to dispel that myth. Monroe tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Perez is squirming around, avoiding Monroe's attempts to control the action.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Perez tries to lock up and control but Monroe gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Monroe breaks from Perez's wrist control and lands an elbow. Perez tries to hold on but Monroe pushes him away. Monroe looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Perez tries to hold on but Monroe postures up. Perez takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Monroe controlling from mount. Monroe trying to control but he's not successful this time. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Reginald Monroe dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Perez works Monroe's body with a nice hook. Perez scores with a jab. Perez lands a really nice looking cross but Monroe seems unphased.
Perez misses with an uppercut. Perez looks to score with a jab to the body but Monroe is just out of range. It looked like Monroe was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Perez throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Monroe appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body. Perez is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Monroe rather than just go for the knockout. Monroe gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Monroe takes a shot to the head.
That's one minute gone in the round. Monroe jumps guard but Perez stands there with Monroe around his waist. Monroe gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

A short right hand to the side of the head by Perez. We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Perez has eaten all the pies! Perez slows down the pace here.
Perez is pushing Monroe up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word. Monroe is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Perez to keep the fight standing. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Reginald Monroe. That's going to take a lot out of him. A short right from Perez. Perez throws a big uppercut that drops Monroe! More strikes from Perez and the referee jumps in to stop the fight! Monroe lies dazed against the cage as Perez celebrates with his cornermen!
