Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Loyd Pope (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Petr Smirnov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Petr Smirnov will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Loyd Pope! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Petr Smirnov! The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Illya Tyunina.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Smirnov scores with a decent looking hook. Smirnov closes the distance and clinches. Pope doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Pope tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Smirnov avoids it. Pope is looking for a takedown. Pope turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Pope manages to end up in side control. Smirnov tries to improve position but can't. Pope tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Pope is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Smirnov has escaped the position, nice work there. Smirnov tries to bench press Pope off him but Pope keeps the position. Smirnov struggling a bit here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Pope tries for a kimura but Smirnov is defending well. Pope tries for a kimura but Smirnov is defending well. Pope looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Smirnov struggling a bit here. Sloppy strikes there by Pope. Pope swings around for an armbar but Smirnov sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Pope's guard. Smirnov throwing strikes but missing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Pope working a defensive guard here.
Smirnov prevents Pope from getting back to his feet. Smirnov engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Smirnov throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Pope on the side of the head.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Smirnov darts in and clinches Pope up against the cage. Pope is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Smirnov is defending well. Smirnov decides to pull guard. Pope has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Smirnov is proving hard to escape from. Pope decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Pope wants to clinch. Smirnov looks for a takedown but Pope sprawls well.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Pope gets the takedown into side control. Smirnov explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there! The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Smirnov misses with a body kick. Pope is looking to counter the offense by Smirnov and move into the clinch. Smirnov darts in and clinches Pope up against the cage. Both guys are working to get underhooks. Pope tries to stall but Smirnov uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Smirnov blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Smirnov lands a left hand.
Pope can't find room to land a body shot as Smirnov controls the action.
Smirnov is defending well against a takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Loyd Pope. That's going to take a lot out of him. Pope keeps control of Smirnov as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Smirnov drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Petr Smirnov dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Smirnov clinches up against the cage. Smirnov is trying to pull guard but Pope has him pressed against the cage. Smirnov stalling in the clinch but Pope improves position. Pope misses with some punches.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Smirnov avoiding damage as Pope throws knees to the body.

That's one minute gone in the round. Pope taking a breather. The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows. Smirnov has Pope pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Pope manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. Pope is looking for a takedown. A head punch blocked on the inside by Smirnov. Smirnov manages to pull guard.
Pope thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Smirnov has a closed guard, preventing Pope from standing up. Smirnov pushes Pope off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there. Pope defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Smirnov. Loyd Pope has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Petr Smirnov. Smirnov is breathing heavily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Pope gets a takedown into half guard. Smirnov manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Pope keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Pope pressing his opponent against the cage. Smirnov takes a shot to the head. Smirnov on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Pope is trying to drag Smirnov to the mat but Smirnov just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Pope takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Pope tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Smirnov avoids it. Pope changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Smirnov fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Pope tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Smirnov's elbow. Smirnov on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Smirnov is pushing Pope up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word. Pope is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Smirnov is defending well for now. Pope is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Smirnov pulls him back up using the underhooks.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Smirnov is trying to pull guard but Pope turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch. Petr Smirnov seems to be working more effectively in the clinch in the fight so far. Pope avoids a wild elbow strike from Smirnov. Good anti-grappling being displayed by Smirnov as Pope tries to tie him up. Pope pulls Smirnov into guard.
Smirnov won't allow Pope to get back to his feet. Smirnov looking to sit in guard and control but Pope gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Pope wants to stand but Smirnov is controlling his posture from full guard. Smirnov has been the more effective fighter overall so far. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Smirnov has his foot on Pope's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Pope works his way back into a safe position though. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close second round but Petr Smirnov will probably get the nod - 10:9. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!
Smirnov changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Pope tries to avoid it but Smirnov manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Pope to the ground. Pope escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Smirnov fails with a takedown attempt. Pope closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Smirnov managing to block the knees to the body from Pope.

Smirnov leaves Pope with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Smirnov has his takedown stuffed and Pope counters by clinching up. Loyd Pope has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Petr Smirnov.
That's one minute gone in the round. Pope is trying to maintain a safe position but Smirnov gets an underhook and turns Pope into the cage. Smirnov has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Pope uses from the top position. Smirnov takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Pope has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Smirnov is proving hard to escape from. Smirnov has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Pope has passed into side control.
Smirnov regains half guard. Pope stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Smirnov to get to his feet. Pope feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Pope wanted to stand there but Smirnov had control of the position. Smirnov trying to keep a closed guard but Pope is proving a slippery customer.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Pope drops back, looking for a kneebar! Smirnov looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Smirnov looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Smirnov! Pope manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. Pope keeping control of the position. The fighters are battling for position here. Pope manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Pope utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Smirnov looking to sit in guard and control but Pope gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Pope thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Pope wanted to stand there but Smirnov had control of the position.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Pope tries to clinch up. Smirnov throws out a counter right but Pope avoids it with no problem. No luck with that takedown attempt from Smirnov. Petr Smirnov seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Smirnov fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Pope, pushing him back against the cage.
That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Pope wants to take the fight to the mat but Smirnov manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch. Pope is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Smirnov gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt. Pope gets underhooks to prevent Smirnov's takedown attempt.
Pope tries to throw a body punch but Smirnov avoids it by throwing Pope back against the cage. The referee is keeping an eye on Pope - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Pope stalls. Smirnov scores with a shot to the side of Pope's head. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Smirnov wants the takedown. Pope is fighting it off but Smirnov persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Pope's guard against the cage. Smirnov stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Pope swivels though and keeps the full guard.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Loyd Pope. Well Smirnov has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality.
