The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Tako misses with a takedown attempt and Mcguire counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Mcguire is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though. Tako turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Tako manages to end up in side control. Mcguire throws Tako to one side and escapes! A telegraphed takedown attempt from Mcguire is defended easily by Tako. Nice takedown defense from Tako. No joy for Mcguire on that attempt. Tako doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Federico Mcguire. That's going to take a lot out of him. Tako manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Mcguire on his heels. He'll look to pass Mcguire's guard now, I'm sure.
That's one minute gone in the round. Tako postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Mcguire is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Tako, into his guard. Tako looks winded! Tako escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Mcguire gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Tako has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Mcguire should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Tako has tightened it up now! Mcguire should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:46 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Jim Tako! Our winner, Jim Tako, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
