PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jese Romero (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chief Sperry (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Romero might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to King of Rock. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of

0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Chief Sperry! The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Frank Antenori and .
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Romero shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Sperry defends it nicely. Sperry feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Romero working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Sperry. Romero looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Sperry not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Sperry is looking to work some ground and pound but Romero has wrist control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Romero wants to hit a switch here but Sperry passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Romero there! Sperry is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Romero can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Sperry lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Romero takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position. The referee warns Romero that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Romero is rocked! The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Sperry punching from mount but Romero doing a good job of avoiding damage. Sperry raining down shots from the mount! Sperry lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Romero hang on? Oh Romero is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Sperry content just to control the position here. Romero seems to have got his legs back now. Sperry has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Sperry looking to ground and pound but Romero is blocking nicely. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Sperry with shots to the head and body - Romero looks very uncomfortable down there. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Poor strikes thrown by Sperry there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Sperry sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Sperry misses with a head shot. Sperry landing shots from mount. Sperry fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Romero really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Romero is breathing heavily.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sperry has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Romero's face.
Sperry controlling the pace for now. Romero is in a horrible position here. Sperry smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Sperry cracks Romero with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Sperry misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Sperry takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Sperry lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
The referee warns Romero that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A nice elbow there by Sperry. Sperry lands a big elbow. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Sperry loads up with a big shot that hurts Romero! He's pulled Sperry in close but Sperry has postured up and lands more strikes. Can Romero survive? More strikes from Sperry and Romero is out! The ref jumps in to save him! Brutal ground and pound!
