The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Freire looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Pope takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Pope defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Freire.
Freire has a takedown stuffed.
Freire misses with a takedown attempt - Pope sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Pope unleashes a big counter combination but Freire bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.

Freire fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Pope avoids it really well and circles away.
Pope cracks Freire with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.

Pope tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.

Freire goes for a takedown attempt but Pope pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

and Pope counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Pope throws a right and a left that Freire avoids nicely.
Pope lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Freire takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Pope's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Pope duly obliges.
Freire shoots in but no luck this time.

Freire closes the distance and clinches up with Pope, looking for a takedown. Freire pushes Pope against the ropes but Pope circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Pope throws a knee to the head but misses.

Pope tries to throw a body punch but Freire avoids it by throwing Pope back against the ropes.
Freire drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Freire is trying to force a seperation but Pope has the dominant position.

Freire pulls guard effortlessly.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Freire looking for a sweep. Not yet Freire, not yet.
Pope wanted to stand there but Freire had control of the position.

Freire not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Pope stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Freire swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Freire looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Pope got a little sloppy there for a moment and Freire has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Pope has managed to get both his arms back between Freire's legs - danger averted.
Freire is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Freire is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Freire tries to pass to full mount but Pope defends it.

Pope wants to get back to his feet but Freire is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Freire shoots in looking for a takedown. Pope tries to sprawl out of it but Freire keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the ropes. Pope manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Pope's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Freire looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Freire tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Pope defends well and Freire ends up having to push Pope into the ropes where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Pope wants to stand and escape but Freire is having none of it.

Freire postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Pope is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Freire, into his guard.

Freire has his feet on Pope's thighs here. He's pushed Pope off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Pope screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!
