Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Weid Chrisman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Simon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Simon has chosen Darude - Sandstorm as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of

1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Chris Simon! The judges for this bout are Ron Honeybunn, Skip Squint and Francis DeMontford.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Simon keeps Chrisman at a distance using the push kick. Chrisman forces Simon back against the cage and clinches. Simon using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Chrisman has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Simon is looking to take this one to the mat. Simon working aggressively here.
Simon tries to land a knee to the head but misses.

I was talking to Chrisman's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight. Simon can't get the takedown.

Weid Chrisman has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chris Simon. Simon tries to throw a body punch but Chrisman avoids it by throwing Simon back against the cage. Simon looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Chrisman breaks from the clinch.

Simon on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. Chrisman seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Simon does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Chrisman scores with a couple of good hammerfists. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Simon is trying to get back to full guard. Simon is still trying to improve position. Chrisman works his way into full mount! Simon tries to reverse the position but Chrisman maintains control. Simon manages to regain half guard. Good work. Chrisman tries to pass the half guard into mount. Simon knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Chrisman scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Simon makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Simon. Simon working for submissions but it's allowed Chrisman to get to half guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Chrisman is nestled in close to Simon, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Simon is looking for a sweep. Chrisman is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Simon moves into full guard.
Simon looking to hit a scissor sweep but Chrisman is one step ahead there. Chrisman content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Chrisman got a little sloppy there for a moment and Simon has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Chrisman has managed to get both his arms back between Simon's legs - danger averted. Simon keeping moving, preventing Chrisman from controlling successfully. Simon wants to sweep here but Chrisman controlling him for the moment. Simon can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Chrisman controls the pace. Chrisman throws a lazy right hand but Simon sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Simon misses with a body kick. Chrisman appears to be looking for a counter takedown. Simon fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Chrisman manages to avoid it. Chrisman tries to clinch up but Simon circles away and keeps his distance. Chrisman throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Simon only half commits to the counter leg kick. Chrisman looks to land a right hand but Simon moved out of range. Simon tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Simon throws a head kick that half lands.
Chrisman throws a jab when Simon was well out of range. Simon with the counter takedown but Chrisman avoids it easily. Simon tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Chrisman was well out of range. Poor timing from Simon. Simon tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Simon throws a head kick that half lands.
Chrisman misses the shot to the body. Chrisman clinches. Chrisman will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Simon up against the cage. Simon throws an elbow but it misses.

Chrisman wants to take the fight to the mat but Simon manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch. Chrisman's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button! Simon is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Chrisman is defending well for now. Simon misses with a punch on the inside.

Simon moves out of range as Chrisman strikes. Chrisman clinches up with Simon and pushes him back against the cage. Chrisman is trying to trip Simon. He has hold of a leg but Simon is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Chrisman persists though and gets the takedown into guard. Simon looking to hit a scissor sweep but Chrisman is one step ahead there. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Chrisman showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Chrisman lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. Weid Chrisman overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Simon is looking for a triangle here but Chrisman uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Simon is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Simon is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Simon works his way to full guard. Good work. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Chrisman landing with the ground and pound. Simon tries to land a sweep but no joy. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Simon can do anything to dispel that myth. Chrisman trying to control but Simon is working from the bottom. Chrisman postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Simon has his foot on Chrisman's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Chrisman works his way back into a safe position though. Chrisman won't allow Simon to sweep him here. Chrisman scores with a decent looking elbow strike. That was a close second round but I would say that Weid Chrisman will probably get the nod. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Chrisman will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Simon tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Chrisman is able to avoid easily. It looked like Chrisman was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit. A looping hook to the body misses from Simon. Chrisman does a little dance to reset his feet. Chrisman shoots in for a takedown but Simon shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Chrisman tries to clinch up. Simon appeared to try and counter that last move with a leg kick. Chrisman tries to clinch there but Simon circles away.

Chrisman misses with a jab, cross combination.

He'll be looking to tighten that up but Chrisman can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Chrisman cracks Simon with a solid left hand.

Not particularly brutal. Chrisman connects with a couple of short punches. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Chrisman's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Chrisman is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Simon can do to turn this around? Chrisman pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Simon is keeping the position for now. Chrisman trying to control the position from guard on top but Simon is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Chrisman has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Simon looking to pass the half guard. A close third round but Chris Simon just about did enough to take it. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Simon scores with a punch to the head. Simon changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Chrisman looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Chrisman trying to control the position from guard on top but Simon is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Simon wants to sweep but no luck. Simon lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard. Simon scores with a decent looking elbow strike. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Simon accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Simon throwing strikes but missing. Simon throws a big right hand that misses. Simon must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Simon works a leg free and moves into half guard. Chrisman keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Chrisman won't allow Simon to pass to mount. Chrisman trying to hold on to Simon's head to control him but Simon postures up.
