Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ben Askren (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Alves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ben Askren! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Michael Alves! The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Bruno Lombardi and Eddie Farnsworth.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Askren drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Alves dodges the ground and pound from Askren. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Askren lands some shots froms side control. Askren scoring with punches and elbows. Askren trying to control the position but Alves is working away. Askren is putting a hurting on Alves here, landing some big shots from side control. Askren tries for a kimura but Alves is defending well. Alves is looking to reverse the position. Askren has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Askren working the ground and pound from side control. Alves taking punishment in the form of punches.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Askren fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Askren wants to lay and pray for a moment but Alves keeps working. Askren lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Alves down.
That's one minute gone in the round. Askren cracks Alves with a big right hand but Alves just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Alves explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there! Askren shoots for a double leg takedown but Alves sprawls well. He's pushed Askren's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Askren throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Alves's waist but Alves gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Askren off to one side. As Askren backs off Alves throws a huge counter combo but Askren manages to avoid it all. Askren tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Alves wants to counter the offense by Askren and move into the clinch position. Askren fails with the takedown. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ben Askren. That's going to take a lot out of him. A slapping leg kick lands for Alves.
A momentary lapse in concentration from Alves enables Askren to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Alves manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Askren throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Alves works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Askren stops Alves from standing up. Askren trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Alves looking to control.

The fighters are battling for position here. Alves manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Askren passes into half guard. Alves is trying to stand.

Askren seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Alves does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Askren tries to pass the half guard into mount. Alves knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Alves is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment. Askren drops an elbow to the side of Alves's head. Askren is nestled in close to Alves, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Askren missing with the ground and pound from half guard. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Askren connects with a nice short shot to Alves's temple. Askren is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. Alves on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. Askren is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Alves doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Askren. Alves is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Askren scores with a couple of nice shots.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Askren lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Askren sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Alves defending well though. Alves keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Alves is looking to escape. Askren seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Alves does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Askren lands strikes from half guard. Alves works his way to full guard. Good work. Askren stands up over Alves, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Ben Askren dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Alves punishes Askren's body with a nice straight punch. Askren shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Alves pinned against the cage. Alves gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Askren misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Askren misses with a takedown attempt and Alves cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ben Askren. That's going to take a lot out of him. Askren misses with a straight left. Askren closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Askren lands in his opponent's guard. Alves manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Alves fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Askren has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. The fight stays on the outside here - Askren looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
That's one minute gone in the round. Askren closes the distance but Alves moves to the side and Alves counters with a stiff right hand. Alves fails with the takedown. Alves forces Askren back against the cage and clinches. Alves pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Askren tries to clinch up and Alves counters with an outside leg kick.
Askren pushes Alves up against the cage in a clinch.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A battle for position here, against the cage. Askren drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Alves breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

A little jabbing left from Alves on the counter but it doesn't find it's target. Askren with a poor takedown and Alves counters with a stiff right hand. Askren wants to clinch and Alves counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body. Askren bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Askren working away. Alves bucks up and tries to throw Askren off but instead Askren has got his back! Alves really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Askren. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Askren has the hooks in. Alves is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted. Askren lands a couple of good shots to his opponent's body and a final shot to the head. Good little attack there by Askren.
Askren is persistently looking for the submission but Alves is defending it well.

Alves has momentary wrist control but Askren slips an elbow through the middle. Alves is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Askren slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Askren lands a couple of digs. Askren wants to control from the top but Alves keeps moving. Askren is looking to work some ground and pound but Alves has wrist control. Alves is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Michael Alves showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's time! Askren's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!
Askren wants to clinch up but Alves keeps it at a distance. Askren shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Alves counters with a left and a right that stings Askren. Askren closes this distance looking for a takedown but Alves circles away. Alves throws a head kick that misses. Askren closes the distance but Alves moves to the side and Alves counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Askren thinking. Alves stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Alves wants it to stay on the feet. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ben Askren. That's going to take a lot out of him. The fight stays on the outside here - Askren looks like he's thinking about clinching though. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Askren looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Alves lands a nice hook to Askren's body. Askren takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes. Michael Alves seems to be getting the better of the standup.
That's one minute gone in the round. A punch combination from Alves misses. Alves cracks Askren with a right hand to the side of the head. Alves throws a leg kick but Askren moved away. Askren tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Alves manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Askren fails with the takedown. Nice jab there from Alves. Askren dives in for a single leg takedown but Alves sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Alves wants to counter with a clinch but Askren pushes him away. Alves defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Askren. It seemed like Alves was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it. Alves lands a left and a right that send Askren crashing to the mat, dazed. Alves thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

That's two minutes gone in the round. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Askren shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Alves counters with a big right hand! Oh Askren is in trouble here! Alves follows up with more strikes and that's it! The ref has stopped it!

Michael Alves tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool. The defeated Ben Askren had this to say: 'I will be humble in my defeat and come back a better fighter.'.
