Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
14 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Vasilko Nikolaevich! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
25 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Shingo Tanaka! The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Jeff Smith and Josh West.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nikolaevich drops Tanaka with a nice combination! Nikolaevich dives into Tanaka's guard, looking to finish!
It looks like Shingo Tanaka has been cut. Nikolaevich trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Tanaka keeping moving, preventing Nikolaevich from controlling successfully. Tanaka keeping full guard, as Nikolaevich tries to pass. Nikolaevich has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Nikolaevich trying to control but Tanaka is working from the bottom. Nikolaevich trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Nikolaevich throws a big elbow that misses. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Nikolaevich throwing strikes but missing. Nikolaevich throws an elbow that misses. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Nikolaevich is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Tanaka defends well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Tanaka is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Tanaka prevents Nikolaevich from getting back to his feet. Tanaka tries to stand but Nikolaevich is controlling from the bottom. Tanaka trying to control but Nikolaevich is working from the bottom. Tanaka might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Nikolaevich haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. Nikolaevich looking for a guillotine here but Tanaka defends easily.
Nikolaevich has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Tanaka wants to get up but he can't break Nikolaevich's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Tanaka trying to control the position from guard on top but Nikolaevich is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. and Tanaka counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work. Nikolaevich takes the fight into the clinch. Nikolaevich is trying to pull guard but Tanaka turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch. Nikolaevich tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Tanaka just stands there and leans against the cage. Tanaka is pressed up against the cage. Nikolaevich has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Tanaka down to the mat. Nikolaevich tries to clinch up. Nikolaevich dives in and grabs Tanaka's left leg, looking for a takedown. Tanaka pushes down on Nikolaevich's head and hops out.

and Tanaka counters with a thumping low kick. Tanaka forces Nikolaevich back against the cage and clinches. Nikolaevich jumps guard but Tanaka turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing. Nikolaevich is looking to take this one to the mat. Nikolaevich wants to take the fight to the mat but Tanaka manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch. Nikolaevich tries to pull guard but Tanaka holds him up against the cage and eventually Nikolaevich drops back down to his feet.
Come on Tanaka - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Nikolaevich tries to clinch but fails miserably and Tanaka counters with an outside leg kick.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Nikolaevich. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Shingo Tanaka will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on Shingo Tanaka's cut. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Tanaka is struggling to control the position. Nikolaevich jumps guard but Tanaka stands there with Nikolaevich around his waist. Nikolaevich gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Nikolaevich is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Tanaka to keep the fight standing. Nikolaevich goes for a takedown in the clinch but Tanaka prevents it.
Nikolaevich is trying to drag Tanaka to the mat but Tanaka just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. Nikolaevich pushes off an throws an elbow but Tanaka leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage. Tanaka is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Tanaka keeps the fight on the outside. Nikolaevich tries to clinch but Tanaka is having none of it. Nikolaevich moves to clinch but Tanaka breaks away and Tanaka counters with a nice low kick that buckles Nikolaevich's knee momentarily. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A right-left combo lands from Nikolaevich. Tanaka is looking to land body kicks. Nikolaevich shoots in looking for a takedown. Tanaka tries to sprawl out of it but Nikolaevich keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Tanaka manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Shingo Tanaka seems to be getting the better of the standup. Tanaka stuffs the takedown attempt from Nikolaevich. Nikolaevich gets slowly back to his feet. Tanaka fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Nikolaevich. Tanaka forces Nikolaevich back against the cage and clinches. Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Tanaka. Tanaka's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Nikolaevich tries to land a knee to the head but Tanaka blocks with his arms.

The ref breaks the fighters up, due to lack of action by Shingo Tanaka. Nikolaevich shoots in but Tanaka avoids the takedown attempt easily. Tanaka was about to counter that last move with a leg kick but changes his mind. Shingo Tanaka is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Nikolaevich throws a left and a right that both miss
and Tanaka counters with a low kick, right behind Nikolaevich 's knee. Nikolaevich swinging wildly here.
Both fighters are breathing heavily. Nikolaevich changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Tanaka tries to avoid it but Nikolaevich manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Tanaka to the ground. Tanaka escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Nikolaevich tries to clinch there but Tanaka circles away.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Tanaka throws a nice outside leg kick. Tanaka looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it. A punch combination from Nikolaevich misses. Tanaka gets a clinch. Shingo Tanaka seems to be working more effectively in the clinch in the fight so far. Tanaka is pressed up against the cage. Nikolaevich has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Tanaka down to the mat. Tanaka avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Nikolaevich tries to close the distance and clinch but Tanaka swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Tanaka is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own. Nikolaevich throws a right hand that misses
and Tanaka counters with a low kick, right behind Nikolaevich 's knee. Nikolaevich throws a jab when Tanaka was well out of range. Nikolaevich misses with a takedown and Tanaka counters with a slapping leg kick. Tanaka has managed to clinch.

Tanaka keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Nikolaevich's efforts to push away. The pace really dropping off here, momentarily. Shingo Tanaka is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight. Nikolaevich goes for a takedown attempt but Tanaka pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Tanaka has been the more effective fighter overall so far. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Tanaka thows a body kick. Nikolaevich tries to catch it but that hurt him.
And that's the end of the fight! Shingo Tanaka comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Tanaka has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
