Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Lucio Duncan! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Joe Paulson ! The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Vladimir Khabensky.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Paulson fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Duncan, pushing him back against the cage. Paulson is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. Duncan escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Joe Paulson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Duncan tries to clinch up but Paulson circles away and keeps his distance. Paulson throws a series of punches but Duncan moves out of range. Paulson throws a sloppy head kick and Duncan counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Duncan. Duncan breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Paulson stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Paulson wants it to stay on the feet. Paulson drives through and clinches with Duncan against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Duncan's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Paulson looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Paulson looks to land a combination but Duncan avoids it well. Paulson with a jab.
That's one minute gone in the round. Paulson shoots in and bounces Duncan off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Duncan wants to stand up but Paulson is controlling him. Paulson with a nice head shot there. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Duncan working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Paulson doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Paulson manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Duncan throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Duncan throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Paulson escapes and throws Duncan's legs to the side, diving into side control! Paulson prevents Duncan from escaping the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Duncan is looking for a sweep. Paulson trying to control the action but Duncan is working from the bottom. Duncan is trying to get back to his feet. Paulson decides to stand back up. Paulson steps back and let's Duncan get back to his feet. Paulson changes levels and scores with a jab to the body. A left lands for Paulson . Duncan tries to move into range but Paulson moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand. Paulson throws a right hand that Duncan ducks under and follows up with a left that Duncan also avoids with ease.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Paulson misses with a combination
and Duncan counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Duncan. Paulson wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Duncan is looking to take this one to the mat. Paulson has had enough of the clinch but Duncan keeps him there for the moment. Paulson 's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. The fight stays on the outside here - Paulson looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Duncan is looking to counter punch. Paulson scores with a three punch combo!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Paulson throws a big shot that misses. Paulson closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Duncan quickly recovers to half guard. Duncan is trying to stand back up but Paulson is controlling him
Duncan blocking the ground and pound attempt from Paulson . Paulson is looking to take a break and control but Duncan is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Duncan is trying to stand up here but Paulson is controlling him well. Paulson wants to control but Duncan is keeping him busy. Duncan tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Paulson manages to move to mount!
Duncan wants to try and get back to his feet. Duncan trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Joe Paulson dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Paulson . Duncan throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done! Paulson closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Duncan quickly recovers to half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Duncan is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Paulson pulls his head out easily. Paulson throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Duncan looks like he's trying to stand up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Paulson missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Paulson stops Duncan from getting back to his feet.
Joe Paulson has got the better of the ground game so far.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Paulson looks to land a combination but Duncan avoids it well. Duncan is looking for a counter combo. Paulson scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Duncan is rocked! Paulson is breathing heavily. Paulson throws a perfectly timed hook that sends Duncan crashing down! Duncan tries to stagger back to his feet but Paulson just hammers him until the ref stops the fight! A confused Duncan asks the ref what just happened. Poor fella.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:39 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Joe Paulson !
