Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Charles Wu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alvar Kares (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kares has chosen AC/DC - Back in Black as his entrance music. Alvar Kares has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Charles Wu's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Charles Wu!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Alvar Kares!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Chris Edwards and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A clash of legs there as Kares blocks the low kick.
Alvar Kares seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Kares gets a double leg takedown into Wu's guard.
Wu is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Kares trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
We've been hearing good reports from Wu's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Kares wants to control from the top but Wu keeps moving.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Wu wants to sweep here but Kares controlling him for the moment.

Kares tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.

We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Kares has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Wu throws a body shot but no joy.

Kares shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Kares was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Kares working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

You can see the frustration on Wu's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Kares is looking to take a break and control but Wu is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Wu tries to improve position but can't.

Kares is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Wu knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Wu is not content to let Kares control the position.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Wu is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Kares off and has taken his back!
Kares is in bad spot here.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Wu gets his hands free as Kares looks to control.
Kares rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
Kares is trying to get back to full guard.

It looks like Alvar Kares has been cut.
Wu slaps away a takedown attempt from Kares, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Wu looks to score with a jab to the body but Kares is just out of range.
Kares feints the counter takedown.
Kares fails to land the takedown.

Kares closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Kares is looking to take a break and control but Wu is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Kares is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Wu is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Wu is trying to control Kares's posture but Kares avoids it.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Kares in particular looking to stall.

Kares closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Wu is pressing down on Kares's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Wu not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Wu throws a leg kick that misses.

Kares shoots in and gets a takedown into Wu's guard.
Kares trying to control the position from guard on top but Wu is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Alvar Kares showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Kares shoots in and bounces Wu off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Wu bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Kares's guard.

Kares looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Wu is defending well. Kares quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Wu has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Kares celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:58 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Alvar Kares!
A relieved looking Alvar Kares thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
