PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Elmer Holt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bald Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Bald Diaz was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Elmer Holt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Bald Diaz!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Joseph Jones and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Holt fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Diaz, pushing him back against the cage.
Diaz misses with a hook from the clinch.

Holt ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Holt no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Holt might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Diaz trying to control but Holt is working from the bottom.
Diaz stops Holt from standing up.
Diaz trying to control the position from guard on top but Holt is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Diaz drops back, looking for a kneebar! Holt looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Holt looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Holt!
Diaz is trying to get back to half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Holt decides to stand up, so the ref orders Diaz to his feet.
Diaz tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Holt paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Diaz tries to clinch up but Holt circles away and keeps his distance.

Diaz is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Holt is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Diaz.

Holt closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Diaz's guard.

Diaz is working an open guard so Holt takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
A decent looking cross lands there for Diaz.
Diaz tries to clinch up but Holt circles away and keeps his distance.
Holt keeps the fight on the outside.
Holt is looking to counter the offense by Diaz and move into the clinch.

Holt looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Holt postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Holt is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Holt postures up and lands a big shot to Diaz's brow.
Holt is looking to stand up but Diaz won't let him.
Holt controls from within his opponent's guard.

Holt keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Diaz's head.

Diaz tries to clinch up.

Holt shoots in and bounces Diaz off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Holt wanted to stand there but Diaz had control of the position.

Holt tries to free his leg and advance position but Diaz is retaining full guard.
Holt landing some decent shots from guard.
Holt is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Diaz isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Holt stacks Diaz on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Holt!

Diaz takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Diaz is looking to regain half guard here but Holt keeps moving and retains side control.

Holt decides to take the fight back to the feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Holt takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

Diaz gets control of Holt's arms and successfully pulls guard. Diaz will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Holt drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Holt jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Diaz is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Holt has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Diaz is proving hard to escape from.

Holt decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Diaz, up you get!

Holt rushes Diaz and presses him up against the cage.

Holt gets control of Diaz's arms and successfully pulls guard. Holt will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Holt is looking to stand back up but Diaz counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Holt.
Diaz stops Holt from getting back to his feet.
Holt trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
Holt wants to control but Diaz is keeping busy.
Holt pushes Diaz off looking to stand but Diaz dives back in and keeps control.

Holt is trying to get back to full guard.

Holt has one foot on Diaz's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

Holt feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Elmer Holt overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Diaz is looking for a triangle but Holt pushes his legs off easily.
Holt could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Diaz has a closed guard, preventing Holt from standing up.

Diaz looking for a guillotine here but Holt defends easily.
Holt postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Holt keeps the fight on the outside.

Holt seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Diaz fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Holt manages to avoid it.
Holt is looking to counter the offense by Diaz and move into the clinch.

Holt closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Holt lands in his opponent's guard.

Holt postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Holt knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Diaz on the ground.

Holt makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Holt is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Diaz is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Diaz is working to avoid the ground and pound but Holt connects with a decent elbow.

Holt tries for a kimura but Diaz is defending well.

Holt decides to stand back up.

Diaz tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Holt manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Holt swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.

Holt shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Diaz's guard.

Holt gets to his feet - Diaz follows without any prompting.
Holt is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Diaz can do to turn this around?
Holt drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.

Holt throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Diaz tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Holt is in Diaz's guard.
Holt has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Holt decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Diaz, up you get!

Holt gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Diaz is fighting off a takedown attempt but Holt is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Diaz to the mat. Diaz regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Holt is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Diaz looking for a sweep. Not yet Diaz, not yet.

And that's the end of the fight!
Elmer Holt showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Holt, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
