PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Julio Shogun (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Max Jackson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Max Jackson will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Julio Shogun!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Max Jackson!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Wesley Smith and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jackson drives through and clinches with Shogun against the cage.
Shogun landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.
Jackson misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Shogun lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Jackson backwards.
Shogun lands a right hand that snaps the head of Jackson backwards.
Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Shogun obliges.

Shogun creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Jackson's defenses.

Shogun has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Jackson uses from the top position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

More hug and hope from Shogun.
Shogun's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Shogun is on top in guard.

Jackson can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Shogun controls the pace.

Shogun is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Shogun here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Shogun is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Jackson to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Jackson shrugs it off.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Shogun, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
