PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Giovanni Marella (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Oyster Sauce (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Marella kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is "La Vittoria è Mia (Victory Is Mine)" by Jim Johnston. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Giovanni Marella!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Oyster Sauce!
The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, David Hoff and Dirk Anderson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sauce shoots in looking for a takedown. Marella tries to sprawl out of it but Sauce keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Marella manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Marella went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.

Marella gets caught napping as Sauce dives in and scores a takedown. Marella manages to retain guard.
Sauce stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Marella swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Marella might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Sauce is fighting to break Marella's control of his arms but Marella is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Sauce slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Sauce swings around for an armbar but Marella sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Sauce's guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Marella is working Sauce over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Sauce wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Marella manages to pass to side control.
We've been hearing that Marella has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
Sauce looks like he's trying to stand up.
Sauce is refusing to be controlled, as Marella sits in half guard.

Marella tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Sauce.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Marella winds up and cracks Sauce with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Sauce tries to kick Marella off but Marella keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Marella is controlling the pace.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Marella tries to stand but his arm is trapped.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Sauce dives in and grabs Marella's left leg, looking for a takedown. Marella pushes down on Sauce's head and hops out.
Oyster Sauce seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Nice takedown defense from Marella. No joy for Sauce on that attempt.
Giovanni Marella has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Oyster Sauce.

Marella closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Sauce did well to prevent Marella getting side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sauce is looking to get back to is feet but Marella passes into side control.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Marella throws an elbow but Sauce slips to the side and avoids it well.
Marella is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Giovanni Marella will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Sauce is trying hard to land a takedown here. Marella sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Sauce looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Oyster Sauce has got the better of the ground game so far.
Marella gets back to full guard.

Sauce is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

Marella wants to control but Sauce is keeping him busy.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Sauce goes for a double leg but Marella avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Marella continues to drive forward.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Marella wants to control from the top but Sauce keeps moving.

Marella slips a nice elbow through Sauce's hands, connecting with Sauce's forehead.
Marella lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Marella tries to stand and escape but Sauce is controlling the position.
Marella is looking to take a break and control but Sauce is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Marella is controlling Sauce's position as best he can from this difficult position.
Sauce is looking to advance position but Marella won't allow it.
Marella is holding on to half guard well.
Sauce wants to pass to mount but Marella is defending the position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Sauce wants to advance to full mount but Marella doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Giovanni Marella will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Sauce is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Marella asserts his dominance and retains side control.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Sauce pushes Marella away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Marella gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Marella gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Sauce tries to free his leg and advance position but Marella is retaining full guard.
Marella on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Marella tries to get out of the position.
Sauce takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Sauce stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Marella swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Marella looking to hit a scissor sweep but Sauce is one step ahead there.
Marella pulls Sauce in close to prevent any damage.

Sauce pushing down on Marella's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Sauce seems to be working for a kimura but Marella defends the submission attempt.

Oyster Sauce has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Giovanni Marella is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Oyster Sauce comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Marella has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
