PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Joe Paulson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tyson Boggs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Boggs is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by "Miami Vice Theme" by Jan Hammer. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Joe Paulson !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 12 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Tyson Boggs!
The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Fedor Mirinova and Sergei Dronov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Paulson scores with a jab to the head.
Paulson swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Paulson dips to his left and cracks Boggs with an uppercut!
Paulson lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Boggs fails to land the takedown.
Paulson throws a left and a right that both miss

and Boggs counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Paulson has a closed guard, preventing Boggs from standing up.

Boggs thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Boggs sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Paulson 's guard.
Paulson keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Boggs missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Boggs controlling the pace.
Boggs wants to pass the guard but Paulson is defending well.
Paulson tries to get to full guard but Boggs has control of the leg.

Boggs lands with a punch from half guard.
Boggs wants to stand up but Paulson has a hold of him and won't allow it.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Paulson is trying to stand back up but Boggs is controlling him
Paulson tries to get to full guard but Boggs has control of the leg.
Boggs throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Boggs has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Paulson tries to kick Boggs off but Boggs keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Paulson blocking the ground and pound attempt from Boggs.

Boggs is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Paulson has managed to free his arm - good work.
Paulson tries to kick Boggs off in order to stand up. Boggs Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Paulson throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

Boggs drives through with a takedown into Paulson 's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Paulson manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
Boggs drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Paulson gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Paulson is fighting off a takedown attempt but Boggs is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Paulson to the mat. Paulson regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Paulson is looking to stand up but Boggs isn't so interested in that idea.
Boggs chips away with some ground and pound.

Paulson is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Boggs is stalling in the full guard.
Paulson wants to stand up but Boggs is controlling him.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Boggs working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Paulson 's head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Tyson Boggs will probably get the nod.

Paulson misses with an uppercut

and Boggs counters by moving into the clinch.
Boggs can't get the takedown.
Paulson wants a takedown but no success here.
Paulson is trying to push Boggs away but Boggs has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Paulson wants to get back to striking at distance but Boggs won't allow it.
Paulson has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Boggs breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Paulson gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Boggs to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Boggs is working Paulson over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Boggs has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Boggs cracks Paulson with a solid left hand.
Paulson wants to stand up but Boggs is controlling him.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Paulson is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Boggs is controlling him.

Boggs is looking to work some ground and pound but Paulson has wrist control.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Boggs controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Boggs is pressing down on Paulson 's thigh, looking to free his foot. Paulson is holding on for now.

Boggs uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Paulson .
And Boggs tries to counter it with a takedown but Paulson pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Boggs shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Paulson defends it nicely.

Boggs drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Tyson Boggs showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Paulson tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Boggs was well out of range. Poor timing from Paulson .
Paulson misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Boggs tries to counter with a clinch but Paulson shakes him off and moves away.
Paulson shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Boggs pinned against the cage. Boggs gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

and Boggs counters with a single leg into guard. Paulson didn't expect that.
Boggs tries to stand but Paulson is controlling from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Boggs scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Boggs drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Paulson dives on top into guard.

Paulson won't allow Boggs to get back to his feet.
Paulson wants to get up but he can't break Boggs's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Paulson gets to his feet. Boggs looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Nice takedown defense from Paulson . No joy for Boggs on that attempt.

Boggs landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Boggs stops Paulson from getting back to his feet.
Boggs keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Boggs throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Paulson is in trouble now - Boggs has advanced to mount!
Tyson Boggs is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Boggs sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
