PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Joshua Clottey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dick Rush (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Clottey comes into the arena with I'm So Hood blaring out of the sound system. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joshua Clottey!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dick Rush!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Jonathan Paton and Chad Campbell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Clottey slips a jab and a cross from Rush.
Clottey avoids a punch combination nicely.
Rush looks to score with a jab to the body but Clottey is just out of range.
Clottey shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Rush swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
No joy there for Clottey, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Rush throws a head kick that misses.
Clottey stuffs the takedown.
The fighters circle momentarily. Clottey darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
A kick lands to the mid section there for Clottey.
Clottey darts in and clinches Rush up against the cage.
Clottey breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Clottey shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Clottey prevents Rush from getting back to his feet.
Rush looks gassed!
Clottey trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Rush wants to stand up but Clottey is controlling him.
Clottey trying to control but Rush is working from the bottom.
Clottey gets to his feet. Rush looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Clottey throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Rush swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Clottey holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Clottey wants a takedown.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Joshua Clottey. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Clottey pulls guard.
Clottey has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Rush off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Clottey throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Rush misses with a shot to the body
and Clottey counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Clottey passes into half guard.
Rush really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Clottey. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Clottey trying to control the action but Rush is working from the bottom.
Clottey decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

Rush misses with a body punch
and Clottey counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Clottey.
Clottey breaks from the clinch.
Rush throws a right hand that Clottey ducks under and follows up with a left that Clottey also avoids with ease.
Clottey thuds his shin into the meat of Rush's side.
Rush throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Clottey stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Clottey gets a takedown into half guard.
Clottey performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Rush is looking to escape.
Clottey works his foot free and advances to mount.
Clottey pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rush squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
Clottey wants to control the pace but Rush is squirming around nicely.
Rush is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
Clottey has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Rush's face.
Rush really wants to buck Clottey off and get back to his feet.
Clottey controlling the position easily from mount.
That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Clottey has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Rush trying desperately to get to his feet.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Rush is in a horrible position here. Clottey smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Clottey landing strikes, looking to finish!
Rush is trying to stand but he's not in a good position to be doing that! Clottey has taken his back!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Clottey slips a jab and a cross from Rush.
Clottey has taken the fight to the clinch.
Rush is trying to break free.
Clottey breaks the clinch.
Clottey throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Rush swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Clottey counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Rush!
Rush is trying to stand.
Rush is trying to stand but he's not in a good position to be doing that! Clottey has taken his back!
Clottey wants to control but Rush is keeping busy.
Clottey lands strikes to the head.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Clottey really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Rush.
Rush is breathing heavily.
The referee is taking a good look at Rush as he is on the wrong end of some big shots from Clottey!

Clottey wants to control but Rush is keeping busy.
Clottey lands a shot to the head.
Rush is covering up but some of the strikes from Clottey are getting through and doing damage.
Rush wants to get back to his feet.
Joshua Clottey overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Clottey is looking to control Rush but Rush is wriggling around and keeping busy.
Clottey has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Rush is taking damage to the body and head.
Clottey is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Rush is defending well though. Clottey let's go of the attempt for now.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Clottey is working the ground and pound here and the referee is taking a close look at Rush. He must escape soon or this one will be stopped.

Clottey lands a couple of good shots to his opponent's body and a final shot to the head. Good little attack there by Clottey.
Rush manages to escape to his feet.

Clottey pushes a forearm under Rush's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Rush is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
