26 - 17 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Akiyama Shinichi! The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Escobar lands with a good body shot. Escobar tried to score with a low kick but Shinichi checks it. Shinichi shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Escobar is refusing to be controlled, as Shinichi sits in half guard. Escobar wants to control but Shinichi is keeping busy.
Shinichi content to control rather than advance. Shinichi is trying to control. Escobar wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Escobar wants to control but Shinichi is keeping busy and won't allow it. That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Escobar is looking for a sweep. Shinichi is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Escobar is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at School Of Hard Knocks, so we'll see if he gets out of it. Shinichi wants to pass to mount but Escobar is defending the position. Shinichi is keen to just control but Escobar is a slippery customer. Escobar keeping hold of Shinichi's head, controlling as best he can.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Shinichi gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Escobar. Escobar swinging wildly here.
And Shinichi tries to counter it with a takedown but Escobar pushes his down on his head and steps out.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Shinichi shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Escobar throws a hook but Shinichi avoids it easily. Escobar connects with a body shot. Escobar swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
so Shinichi counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Shinichi lying in Escobar's guard like a wet fish here, stalling away. Escobar decides he's had enough of all that nonsense - he escapes his hips and locks up an armbar! Wow, that was slick! Shinichi taps! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over!
