Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Matt Bower! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Johnny Rico! The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Jonathan Paton and Steve Montenegro.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rico throws a sloppy head kick and Bower moves out of range easily. Rico looks to land a left hand but Bower moved out of range nicely. Bower shoots in but Rico avoids the takedown attempt easily. Rico misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Bower steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Rico. Bower shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Rico pinned against the cage. Rico gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Bower ducks under a wild hook from Rico. Bower moves out of range as Rico strikes. A nice combination there by Rico.
It looks like Matt Bower has been cut. Rico throws a series of strikes that have Bower backpedaling.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Rico jabs Bower right on the nose. Bower blinks but takes it well.

Bower misses with a takedown attempt - Rico sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Matt Bower. That's going to take a lot out of him. Bower shoots in for a double leg but Rico sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bower walks into a stiff left hand from Rico. Rico misses with a hook. Bower ducked under it nicely. Bower shoots in and drives through. Rico sprawls well. Good exchange - Rico coming out on top. A jab from Rico misses. Rico looks to throw the jab but Bower is out of range. Nice sprawl there from Rico as Bower shoots in. A big left from Rico misses. Rico connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe. Rico rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Bower moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Bower shoots for a takedown but Rico saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Matt Bower seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Rico listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut. Rico scores with a body shot.

Rico connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Bower's hands. Rico rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Bower moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Rico tries a head kick but it misses.
Bower walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Bower. Bower tries to clinch but Rico is having none of it. Rico misses with a head kick.
Rico goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo. Rico lands a jab to Bower's midsection. Rico lands a nice shot to the body.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Bower fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Rico lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Rico is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round!Bower had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté. Rico connects with a good straight punch right through the guard and follows up with a right hook and a left hook! That last one sent Bower tumbling to the canvas! Rico pours on the pressure with more strikes and the referee has no hesitation diving in to stop the fight! Bower was done - good stoppage!
