Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Henry Claudiano! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ares Espiro! The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Marco Blurström and Anni Minnemäki.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Espiro lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw. Claudiano moves into the clinch successfully.
Espiro lands with a short shot to the head. Claudiano gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Espiro.
Espiro lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage. Claudiano's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Espiro throws out a loose jab but Claudiano uses good head movement to avoid it. Claudiano went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected. Claudiano lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt. Claudiano closes the distance and clinches up with Espiro, looking for a takedown. Claudiano pushes Espiro against the cage but Espiro circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Espiro has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout. Espiro lands a really nice looking cross but Claudiano seems unphased.
Espiro connects with a good right hand that stumbles Claudiano. Claudiano circles away out of range and recomposes himself. Claudiano slips a jab and a cross from Espiro.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Claudiano gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. The pace really dropping off here, momentarily. Espiro misses with a short punch on the inside.
That's one minute gone in the round. Espiro throws a punch but it's blocked by Claudiano. A head punch on the inside from Espiro fails to land. Claudiano prevents the takedown attempt.
Claudiano breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Ares Espiro seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Claudiano scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Claudiano stalling. Claudiano knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Espiro on the ground. Espiro is not content to let Claudiano control the position. Espiro is looking to improve his position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Claudiano trying to pass the guard but Espiro defending well. Claudiano is just content to waste time from the top position. Espiro takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard. Claudiano has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Espiro is proving hard to escape from. Claudiano tries to free his leg and advance position but Espiro is retaining full guard.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. A left lands for Espiro. Claudiano moves forwards but Espiro connects with a nice, crisp jab. Espiro misses with a straight right. Espiro throws an overhand right that lands on Claudiano's shoulder, as Claudiano tries to avoid the shot. Claudiano swats away the attempt to clinch by Espiro. Espiro doesn't manage to clinch there - Claudiano circles away.
Claudiano lands with a kick to the temple. Espiro shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?" Espiro wants to clinch up but Claudiano keeps it at a distance. Claudiano is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Espiro. Espiro misses with a hook. Espiro darts in and out, connecting with a jab. Espiro fakes a head shot and lands one to the body. A slow jab from Espiro misses its intended target. Claudiano staying out of range there. Claudiano gets a clinch.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Claudiano is trying to trip Espiro. He has hold of a leg but Espiro is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Claudiano persists though and gets the takedown into guard. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Espiro is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Espiro has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Claudiano can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Claudiano throws a sloppy strike and Espiro has hooked up an armbar on the loose arm! He's turned and extended fully! Claudiano is forced to tap! Great BJJ from Espiro!
