PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jack Kessler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chad Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kessler comes into the arena with Yattering - Chase of Thoughts blaring out of the sound system. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 25 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jack Kessler!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chad Smith!
The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Sergei Dronov and Aleksandr Martynov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kessler misses with a wild combination.
Kessler misses with a hook to the body

and Smith holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Smith has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Smith tries to pull guard but Kessler holds him up against the cage and eventually Smith drops back down to his feet.

Kessler working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Smith doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Smith manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Kessler lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kessler is pushing down on Smith's leg trying to pass to half guard. Smith is fighting to maintain full guard but Kessler has managed to sneak the leg through.
Smith controlling the position for now.

Kessler not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Smith wants to improve his position but Kessler is controlling well.
Kessler is stalling here. Smith is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Kessler seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Smith has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Kessler tries to bench press Smith off him but Smith keeps the position.
Smith wants to control but Kessler is keeping him busy.
Kessler is looking for a sweep.

Kessler dodges the ground and pound from Smith.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Kessler is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Smith's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Kessler is holding on to half guard well.
Smith blocks the strikes from Kessler.

Smith is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Kessler has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Smith is working away from the top position though.
Smith is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Kessler reverses the position - he's now on top in Smith's guard.

Kessler won't allow Smith to sweep him here.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Kessler throws a nice outside leg kick.
Smith looks to land a left hand but Kessler moved out of range nicely.
The fight stays on the outside here - Smith looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Kessler.
Smith drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Kessler defends it well.
A looping hook to the body misses from Kessler. Smith does a little dance to reset his feet.
Jack Kessler seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Smith clinches up with Kessler and pushes him back against the cage.
Smith tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Kessler smiles and moves away.

Smith gets in close and instigates a clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Smith tries to pull guard but Kessler won't allow it.
Jack Kessler has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chad Smith.
Smith is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Kessler to keep the fight standing.
Kessler stalling in the clinch but Smith improves position.

Smith pulls guard successfully.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Kessler is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


A nice inside leg kick there by Kessler. That's going to slow Smith down.

Smith moves into the clinch successfully.
Smith lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Kessler backwards.
Kessler has Smith pressed against the cage.
Kessler works on Smith's body with a couple of short punches.
Kessler misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Kessler stalling in the clinch.
Smith changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Kessler fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Crunch! Kessler slams his shin into Smith's torso.

Kessler scores with a takedown into Smith's guard.
Kessler throws a strike but Smith rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Kessler is on top in guard.


Smith looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Kessler has picked Smith up and slammed him! Smith can't keep hold of the triangle and Kessler manages to pass to side control!

Kessler thows a huge punch but Smith dodges it nicely.
Kessler throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Smith to regain full guard.
Kessler has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Kessler stands over his opponent and dives in with a flying punch! Smith throws up his legs and catches Kessler in a triangle! Oh this looks tight! Kessler tries to escape but he's forced to tap! Wow, fantastic work there by Smith! That came out of nowhere!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:32 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Chad Smith!
A very excited looking Chad Smith rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
