Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jarvis Sparks! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Chief Sperry! The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Columbo Gatti and Joseph Jones.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sparks dodges the punch combination from Sperry.
Sparks lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Sperry backs up against the cage.
It looks like Chief Sperry has been cut. Sparks instigates a clinch. Sperry goes for a takedown in the clinch but Sparks prevents it.

Jarvis Sparks has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chief Sperry. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Sparks lands with a left to the head. We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Sperry has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat. Sparks scores with a shot to the side of Sperry's head.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sperry gets a trip takedown into half guard. Sparks tries to roll over but Sperry keeps him under control. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Sparks trying to control but Sperry postures up.
Sperry throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Sparks holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now. Sparks on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Sparks tries to get out of the position. Sperry wants to lay and pray for a moment but Sparks keeps working. Sperry seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Sparks is positioning himself well to prevent Sperry advancing to mount. Sperry wants to control but Sparks is keeping him busy. Sparks is looking for a sweep. Sperry is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Still in half guard, Sperry seems content to control. Sparks wants to get back to full guard but Sperry has mounted him!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Sparks wants to control but Sperry is having none of it. Sparks tries to reverse the position but Sperry maintains control. Sperry in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Sparks tries to hold on but Sperry pushes him away. Sperry has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Sperry cracks Sparks with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
This has been an exciting period of action! Sperry wants to finish this one by submission but Sparks is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Sperry. Sperry tries to control but Sparks wriggling away. Sparks wants to control but Sperry is having none of it. A nice elbow there by Sperry. Sparks tries to hold on but Sperry postures up. Sparks is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Sparks is working hard here to advance position. Sparks is breathing heavily. Sperry wants to control the pace but Sparks is squirming around nicely. The referee warns Sparks that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Sperry landing strikes from the mount and Sparks is in trouble! Sperry cracks Sparks with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Sparks knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Sperry on the ground. Sparks is trying desperately to improve position. Sperry connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Sperry looking to control but Sparks is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Sperry lands with some strikes.
Sparks is rocked!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Sperry is in the full mount, landing strikes. Oh Sparks is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Sperry looking to finish here with some ground and pound. He lands one big shot that has Sparks covering up... and two more big strikes land, forcing the referee to step in and put and end to proceedings! This fight is all over!
