Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Henry Honeycutt! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
8 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mark Ground! The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Ian Loll and William Peck.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A looping hook to the body misses from Ground. Honeycutt does a little dance to reset his feet. Honeycutt wants to clinch. Honeycutt moves in looking to clinch but Ground pushes him off. Honeycutt gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Horrible takedown attempt by Honeycutt or perhaps it was just good defense by Ground, which made it look bad. Honeycutt takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor. Honeycutt shoots in but no luck this time. Ground misses with a wild body shot. Ground scores with a takedown into Honeycutt's guard. Ground is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Ground forces his way into half guard. Honeycutt is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ground is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Honeycutt! Ground wants to take his opponent's back but Honeycutt doesn't allow it. Ground controlling the position easily from mount. It looks like Ground might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. Honeycutt is looking to get to half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ground controlling from the full mount. Ground's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. Ground pushing the pace here, looking to move to his opponents back and work for a finish.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ground working away from the top, dropping strikes. Ground takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Ground moves to the back. Ground controls the position. Ground working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet. Ground is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.

Honeycutt is trying to break free.
Ground landing with strikes. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! I would not like to be Honeycutt right now.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Honeycutt is trying to defend against the choke here but Ground has an arm under his chin. This one might not last much longer. Ground Tightens the hold and Honeycutt taps out furiously! Ground displays superior BJJ to win the fight.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Mark Ground! In his post fight interview, Mark Ground started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
