Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
23 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Makahlen Gorbachoff! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
30 - 17 - 0, fighting out of New York, Robert Van Winkle! The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, James Atkins and Richard Clark.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Van Winkle takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. Van Winkle throws a leg kick but Gorbachoff sees it coming and checks it nicely. Gorbachoff misses with an attempted mid kick.
Van Winkle ducks down and throws a hook to the body. Gorbachoff on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot. That kick from Gorbachoff tenderised Van Winkle's leg. Van Winkle is trying to keep his angry face on. Van Winkle connects with a body shot. Van Winkle moves out of range of the body kick from Gorbachoff.
Van Winkle blocks a jab. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Van Winkle stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush. Van Winkle fails to land with a series of punches.

Makahlen Gorbachoff seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Gorbachoff takes a body punch but keeps moving. Gorbachoff missing with a left hand there. Van Winkle was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Van Winkle feints the counter takedown. No joy there for Gorbachoff, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Van Winkle is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Gorbachoff takes one on the chin but keeps coming.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Van Winkle bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Gorbachoff fails with a takedown attempt. Van Winkle lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent. Gorbachoff throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Van Winkle shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Gorbachoff's guard. Gorbachoff is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Van Winkle trying to control but Gorbachoff is working from the bottom. Gorbachoff is refusing to be controlled, as Van Winkle sits in half guard. Van Winkle wants to pass to mount but Gorbachoff is defending the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Van Winkle wants to lay and pray for a moment but Gorbachoff keeps working. Gorbachoff slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Gorbachoff pulls Van Winkle in close to his closed guard and prevents Van Winkle from doing any damage or advancing position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Van Winkle trying to control the position from guard on top but Gorbachoff is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Robert Van Winkle seems to be getting the better of the standup. Van Winkle scores with a leg kick.
Van Winkle gets tackled into the cage by Gorbachoff. Gorbachoff maintains the clinch. Van Winkle lands a shot to the body. Gorbachoff pushes Van Winkle back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head. Gorbachoff blocks an uppercut.

Gorbachoff gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Van Winkle wants to control from the top but Gorbachoff keeps moving. Van Winkle working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Van Winkle slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Van Winkle passes easily into side control. Nice work. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Robert Van Winkle showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's time! Back to the action! And we move into the final round!

A little feinted left hand from Gorbachoff on the counter but he doesn't commit to it. Gorbachoff throws a jab but it's blocked by Van Winkle. Van Winkle throws a right hand that misses
and Gorbachoff counters with a stiff right hand. Gorbachoff tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Van Winkle is able to avoid easily. Van Winkle gets the takedown into side control. Gorbachoff tries to improve position but can't. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Van Winkle working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Van Winkle is trying to ground and pound but Gorbachoff uses the momentary lack of control by Van Winkle to regain half guard. Van Winkle seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Gorbachoff does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
That's one minute gone in the round. Van Winkle throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Van Winkle in particular looking to stall. Gorbachoff is not content to let Van Winkle control the position. Van Winkle looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Van Winkle is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Van Winkle is looking for a kimura here.
Makahlen Gorbachoff has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Gorbachoff wants to get back to full guard. Gorbachoff is staying active underneath Van Winkle, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Nice strikes from Van Winkle there. Van Winkle stalling away here and it's allowed Gorbachoff to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard. Van Winkle preventing the sweep. Gorbachoff trying to control the position.

Van Winkle is keen to just control but Gorbachoff is a slippery customer. Gorbachoff keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Gorbachoff is trying to get back to full guard. Van Winkle tries to pass to full mount but Gorbachoff defends it. Van Winkle is figuring out what he wants to do next. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Gorbachoff is trying to maintain the position but Van Winkle is very close to passing his half guard. Gorbachoff is defending against the submission attempts here by Van Winkle.
And that's the end of the fight! Robert Van Winkle comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Van Winkle has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
