PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sailor Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ryan Reeves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gracie comes to the cage accompanied by Disciples of Power - Lords of Creation. Reeves has chosen Natural Born Killaz as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Sailor Gracie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ryan Reeves!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Chris Downing and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gracie shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Reeves but Reeves pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Gracie closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Gracie on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Reeves tries to land knees in the clinch but Gracie avoids the damage to the body.
Gracie blocks the elbow strike.
Reeves tries to land a knee to the head but Gracie blocks with his arms.

Reeves is fighting off a takedown attempt but Gracie is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Reeves to the mat. Reeves regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Gracie loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gracie stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Reeves swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Reeves keeping moving, preventing Gracie from controlling successfully.
Gracie with a nice head shot there.

Gracie loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Reeves really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gracie. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Gracie trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Gracie accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Gracie sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Gracie has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Gracie is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

We've been hearing that Gracie has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
Gracie stands and throws Reeves's legs to the side, diving into side control.
A lull in the action here.

The ground and pound from Gracie seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Gracie in side control, throwing shots but Reeves defends.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Reeves can do anything to dispel that myth.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gracie wants to control but Reeves is keeping him busy.
Gracie working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.

Gracie is putting a hurting on Reeves here, landing some big shots from side control.

Reeves tries to buck Gracie off but Gracie is having none of it.

Gracie wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Reeves, who protects the arm well.

Gracie in side control, throwing shots but Reeves defends.

Gracie wants to lay and pray for a moment but Reeves keeps working.
Gracie postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Gracie swings around for an armbar but Reeves sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Gracie's guard.

Gracie pushes a forearm under Reeves's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Reeves is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Sailor Gracie!
Sailor Gracie decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
