Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jimi Aldo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Thomas Howard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Thomas Howard will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Peter Branson and Bart Greer.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Aldo tries to close the distance and clinch up but Howard swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Howard raises up his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.
A nice leg kick lands there from Howard.
Good leg kick by Howard there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Howard throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
It looked like Aldo was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Howard with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Aldo moves in looking to clinch but Howard pushes him off.
Aldo wants to clinch up but Howard keeps it at a distance.
Aldo steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Howard. That one must have hurt.
Aldo shoots in for a takedown but Howard shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Aldo is looking to clinch.
Howard throws a fast counter high kick but Aldo manages to duck under it in time.

Aldo remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Aldo dives in and grabs Howard's left leg, looking for a takedown. Howard pushes down on Aldo's head and hops out.

Aldo shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Howard as he jumps to the side.

Aldo shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Howard is trying to defend but Aldo finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Aldo decides to stand up, so the ref orders Howard to his feet.

and Howard counters with a big head kick but Aldo shrugs it off.
Aldo on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Aldo looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
A momentary lapse in concentration from Howard enables Aldo to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Howard manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Aldo gets to his feet - Howard follows without any prompting.
Howard scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.

Aldo looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Aldo shoots in but Howard avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Howard lands a head kick. Aldo smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Howard lands with a kick to the ribs.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Howard, right into the meat.
Aldo darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Howard manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Aldo keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Howard wants to get back to striking at distance but Aldo won't allow it.

A nice side step and Howard releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.

Aldo is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.

Thomas Howard showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Aldo dives in for a single leg takedown but Howard sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Howard raises up his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.
Aldo on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Aldo throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Howard was covering up waiting for the punch and Aldo finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Howard felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Howard scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Aldo manages to mount him!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Aldo tries to control but Howard wriggling away.

Jimi Aldo overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Howard wants to stand back up but Aldo manages to pass into side control.
Howard is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Aldo asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Aldo is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Howard will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Howard parries the strikes from Aldo easily there. Aldo is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Howard to escape.
Aldo tries for a kimura but Howard is defending well.

You can see the frustration on Howard's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Howard is not content to let Aldo control the position.
Aldo advances to full mount.
Aldo takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Thomas Howard is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Aldo throws some wild stikes that Howard manages to avoid easily.

Aldo's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
