The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ishii clinches up with Liddel and pushes him back against the cage. Ishii gets a trip takedown into half guard. Ishii prevents Liddel from improving his position. Ishii working the head and body with strikes. Liddel works his way to full guard. Good work. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Ishii's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Ishii scoring with punches to the head and body. Ishii postures up and lands a big shot to Liddel's brow.
Liddel is rocked! Ishii throwing strikes from guard but Liddel blocks nicely. Liddel utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Ishii throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Liddel works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Liddel wants to get back to his feet but Ishii is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Ishii throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ishii stands up over Liddel, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Liddel wants to get back to his feet but Ishii is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Ishii lands a couple of digs. Ishii preventing the sweep. Liddel looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Liddel wants to pass the guard but Ishii is keeping the position. Liddel is looking to stand up but Ishii won't let him.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ishii keeping full guard, as Liddel tries to pass. Liddel controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Ishii really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Liddel. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Liddel stands up from Ishii's guard - Liddel perhaps looking for a knockout. Ishii fails to land the takedown. Liddel misses with a kick to the body.
Ishii closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Liddel did well to prevent Ishii getting side control. Liddel is looking to improve his position.
Liddel is not content to let Ishii control the position. My spies in Extreme MMA (7 Elites $250/week) inform me that Ishii has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions.
