Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ralph Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Charlie Huang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Huang has chosen Click Click Boom as his entrance music. Charlie Huang looks lathargic as he enters the arena. Wake up son, you're about to have a fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ralph Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Charlie Huang!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Smith shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Huang is trying to defend but Smith finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Smith stalling.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Smith decides to stand and escape the position.
Huang displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Smith.

Huang fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Smith sprawls well initially but Huang persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Smith has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Huang is on him like a limpet, forcing Smith back against the cage.

Smith looking to throw knees to the head but Huang is blocking nicely.

Huang jumps into guard, dragging Smith to the mat.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Smith missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Huang looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Huang wants to improve his position but instead Smith has moved into half guard.

Huang on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Huang wants to get back to full guard.

Smith is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Smith decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Smith dives in for a single leg takedown but Huang sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Smith shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Smith is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Huang sees it coming and defends easily.

Smith stands up out of the half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Huang slaps away a takedown attempt from Smith, before circling back to the center of the mat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ralph Smith dominated that round.
That's time! Smith's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Huang drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Smith wriggles free and stands up.
Huang is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Huang connects with a high kick.

Huang gets caught flat footed, as Smith shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Smith wanted to stand there but Huang had control of the position.
Huang doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Huang can do anything to dispel that myth.
Huang is breathing heavily.
Huang looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Smith puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Smith trying to control the pace.

Smith decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

Huang shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Smith is trying to defend but Huang finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Smith works his way to full guard. Good work.

Smith has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Smith continues to stall.
Smith has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Smith has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Huang has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
Smith is trying to drag Huang to the mat but Huang just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Huang has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Smith uses from the top position.

Smith drops back looking for a leg! Huang is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Huang manages to kick Smith off! Smith jumps back into Huang's guard.
Smith is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Smith's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Huang had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Smith defends it easily.
Smith is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Huang can do to turn this around?
Smith controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ralph Smith dominated that second round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!



Huang pushes Smith up against the cage in a clinch.

Smith jumps guard.
Smith bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Huang's guard.

Smith is stalling in the full guard.
Huang controls Smith momentarily but Smith frees himself.
Huang takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Smith tries to stand but Huang is controlling from the bottom.
Smith showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Huang lands a decent shot there.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Smith stops Huang from standing up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
A swing and a miss from Smith.

Huang gets the takedown into side control.

Smith throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!

Huang gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Smith pulls guard.
Huang trying to control the position from guard on top but Smith is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Smith has his hands on Huang's head, controlling the position.
Smith manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Huang manages to get himself to full guard.

Smith distracts Huang with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Smith stands up from Huang's guard - Smith perhaps looking for a knockout.
No luck for Smith with that takedown attempt.
Huang is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

This has been an exciting period of action!

Huang moves into the clinch.
Charlie Huang has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Ralph Smith is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Huang tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Smith's elbow.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ralph Smith showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Smith, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
