Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Joey Diaz! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mark Hammer! The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Jeff Smith and Colin Fray.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hammer shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Diaz is trying to defend but Hammer finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Diaz wants to get back to his feet.
Diaz tries to get to full guard but Hammer has control of the leg. Hammer really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Diaz. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Hammer is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. Hammer thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Diaz trying to hold on to Hammer's head to control him but Hammer postures up.
Diaz on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. Hammer drops an elbow to the side of Diaz's head. Hammer lands strikes from half guard. Diaz preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Hammer connects with a nice short shot to Diaz's temple. Diaz is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Hammer scores with a couple of nice shots.
That's one minute gone in the round. Diaz is looking for a sweep. Hammer is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Hammer lands a nice short elbow. Hammer is nestled in close to Diaz, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Hammer looks to score some points with some ground and pound. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Hammer connects with a nice short shot to Diaz's temple.
Diaz is rocked! Hammer scores with a big shot! Diaz's head bounced off the canvas with a huge thud! More strikes land and the referee has jumped in to save Diaz! He was hurt real bad - good stoppage!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:36 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Mark Hammer!
